TL; DR
  • Tipster says Galaxy Z Fold 9 will use an under-display selfie camera.
  • Early target: 7.9mm folded and 3.9mm unfolded; Samsung has confirmed nothing.
  • Samsung dropped the hidden camera on the Fold 7 in 2025.

Brands sometimes drop a feature, pretend as if it never existed, and bring it back years later as if it is entirely new. I find that hilarious and fascinating. A fresh tip says Samsung’s next big-screen foldable may do exactly that, and for me, Apple’s recent debut makes the timing interesting.

Is Samsung Bringing the Under-Display Camera Back to the Galaxy Z Fold 9?

Possibly, yes. Tipster kro (@kro_roe) says on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the Galaxy Z Fold 9 could bring back the under-display selfie camera for the inner screen. For those catching up, Samsung omitted the camera tech with the Fold 7 in 2025. If that happens, it would mean Samsung is reversing a decision it made only two years ago.

While the Fold 3 debuted with the under-display selfie camera in 2021, Samsung replaced it with the higher-resolution 10MP selfie shooter on the Fold 7. As for the “why,” under-display cameras generally struggle with detail, texture, and overall clarity, which leaves most image quality to software processing.

Even the Fold 8 (review) and Fold 8 Ultra (review) stayed with a 10MP unit. Apple adds spice here. Its first foldable, the iPhone Duo, arrived in September with its own hidden FaceTime camera, so a Samsung U-turn would put both rivals behind the display.

What Else Is Tipped for the Galaxy Z Fold 9?

The same tipster expects major internal upgrades with minimal exterior changes. An early target puts the Fold 9 at 7.9mm folded and 3.9mm unfolded, which is 1.0mm and 0.2mm slimmer than the Fold 8 Ultra’s 8.9mm and 4.1mm (my math, not the tipster’s or the brand’s).

Another report expects design and thickness to stay close to this year’s Fold 8, so I treat the slimmer figure as a target. Rumors also point to a next-generation Snapdragon chip (likely the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 for Galaxy), at least 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.

I didn’t think I’d write this sentence, but it was Karbonn, a brand most of us had forgotten as a 2010s memory, that kicked off November 2026 with two smartphones. Anyway, it’s the year of surprises, so I’ll move on to the other launches that will or might take place this month. From there, the …

ImageSamsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: The No-Compromise Foldable

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra changes how I think about foldables. Samsung doesn’t dwell on trade-offs for that big 8-inch screen. Instead, it shows what you can actually do with it. The titanium case is just 4.1mm thick when open. It’s lighter than most top-end phones, so nothing feels sacrificed. This year, Samsung didn’t just …
