TL; DR
- Apple reportedly refreshes three iPads in early 2027, led by an OLED iPad Air.
- iPad Pro may gain vapor chamber cooling; entry-level iPad specs remain unconfirmed.
- M7 MacBook Pros reportedly follow, including an entry-level 14-inch model.
A hot minute after the touchscreen MacBook Pro’s release, we have yet another scoop about upcoming MacBook versions. This time, it’s about the next-generation MacBook Pro models, powered by the M7 family of chips. There are some bits and pieces about upcoming iPads as well, which might launch early next year.
Basically, Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter gives us a decent idea of Apple’s 2027 roadmap and what MacBooks and iPads it has planned. So, without further ado, let’s dive right in.

What Is Apple Planning For The iPad Lineup in 2027?
Launch Timeline
Apple plans to refresh its iPad lineup in the first half of 2027. Per Gurman, three models are in the queue: an upgraded entry-level iPad, a next-generation iPad Air with an OLED display (that’s a big one), and a faster iPad Pro.
Given that the latest iPad Air arrived in March 2026, its successor could also land around March 2027. Gurman adds that no major iPad launches are planned for the second half of 2027, unless these plans slip.

A spring launch wouldn’t be unusual for Apple, either. While the M5 iPad Pro (8th Gen) arrived in October 2025, the M4 iPad Pro debuted in May 2024, and the M1 iPad Pro (5th Gen) arrived in April 2021. A spring 2027 launch would simply bring the Pro lineup back to its more traditional release window.
What’s New For iPads?
The iPad Air with an OLED display is the headline for me. No matter how good an IPS LCD panel gets, it can’t match OLED’s deep, inky blacks. This could be the Air’s biggest visual upgrade in years, mirroring the recently launched iPad mini (2026), Apple’s first non-Pro iPad with an OLED screen.

However, the iPad mini (2026) starts at ₹82,900 for its 128GB Wi-Fi variant. Going by recent pricing trends, the OLED iPad Air could cost 15–20% more than the current generation. Besides the display, it could also get an M5 chip, replacing the M4 currently used.
The iPad Pro, meanwhile, could get a vapor chamber to manage temperatures during gaming and demanding AI tasks. This should help with sustained performance, although I’ll wait for real-world tests before cheering. An M6 chip is widely expected, too.

As for the entry-level iPad, it could receive a chip and connectivity refresh. The most likely candidate is Apple’s A19 chip, bringing Apple Intelligence support, but there’s little else to report.
| Model | What’s expected | Basis |
| Entry-level iPad | Early 2027 refresh; A19 chip, Apple Intelligence, N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7 and C1X modem on cellular versions | Timing: Gurman. Chip and wireless details: earlier reports, unconfirmed |
| iPad Air | OLED display; M5 chip | OLED: Gurman. M5: speculation |
| iPad Pro | Vapor chamber cooling; M6 chip | Cooling: Gurman. M6: widely expected |

Which MacBook Pro Models Are Coming?
Gurman discusses MacBooks later in the same newsletter. Apple is already working on a second-generation touchscreen MacBook Pro, powered by the M7 Pro and M7 Max chips, with an even stronger focus on AI processing. In other words, the upcoming high-end MacBook Pros could skip the M6 variants altogether.
Alongside these, Apple is reportedly planning an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard M7 chip, succeeding the recently launched M6 MacBook Pro. It will feature a thinner chassis and a redesigned display with slimmer bezels. However, the report doesn’t indicate whether this model will get a touchscreen.

Timing is where things get a little uncertain. Gurman hasn’t attached a date to the entry-level model, although a July Bloomberg report pointed to the first half of 2027 for a 14-inch MacBook Pro refresh. For the M7 Pro and M7 Max models, Gurman’s earlier podcast comments suggest a late 2027 launch, which also fits Apple’s usual annual release cycle.
So, should you wait? I’d say it depends on your needs. If you need a MacBook Pro now, buy one; a 2027 roadmap won’t make your current laptop obsolete overnight. On the iPad side, the OLED Air is worth waiting for if your current tablet can last until the first half of 2027.
