That’s a ₹20,000 jump, or 40 percent, for what used to be the cheapest premium iPad.

Finally, an OLED in iPad Mini
The iPad Pro has had OLED since 2024. Nano-texture glass has been a Pro option since 2024. IP67 is standard on an iPhone. The mini finally caught up, but it’s priced like it did something extra.
The new iPad mini switches from LCD to an 8.5-inch OLED panel, branded Super Retina XDR. Apple claims peak brightness of 1,200 nits, with 600 nits full-screen for SDR and HDR. Bezels are 24 percent thinner, so the screen got bigger without the body getting larger.

For Indian buyers, the real value is in streaming. OLED makes HDR on Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, and Apple TV+ look much better, especially around subtitles where LCD blooming stands out. The extra brightness helps in daylight. Apple now offers nano-texture glass on the mini for the first time, a feature previously exclusive to the iPad Pro. It cuts glare, but it will cost extra. Apple hasn’t shared pricing for India yet.
However, it’a not a ProMotion panel. The mini is still at 60Hz while every other premium Apple screen moved to 120Hz.
A20 Pro and the AI pitch
The mini now runs on the A20 Pro, built on a 2nm process. It’s the same chip family as the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple claims up to 4.5x faster AI performance, 2.7x faster graphics, and 60 percent faster multithreaded CPU performance compared to the last mini. These are Apple’s numbers, measured against a three-generation-old chip, so keep that in mind.

The 512GB model lists a full, un-binned A20 Pro and a dual 16-core Neural Engine for heavier on-device workloads. The chip is designed for iPadOS 27 and the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, which Apple says can draw on personal context to surface information and interpret what’s on screen.
That’s a lot of silicon for a small tablet, and it’s the part of this update that will last the longest. A mini bought today won’t feel slow in four years. Whether Indian buyers get much use out of the AI features depends on how much of Apple Intelligence actually becomes available in India.
Thinner, lighter, and finally rated for a IP-67 rated
The body is now 5.4mm thick, down from 6.3mm, and weighs 255g for Wi-Fi, down from 293g. It comes in Midnight and Starlight. The mini now has IP67 water and dust resistance, a first for this line and the most relevant upgrade for India. You can’t swim with it, but you can carry it through monsoon season without worrying.

Apple moved the 12MP Center Stage front camera to the landscape edge, which is better for video calls and online classes. The mini now has Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and 5G on the cellular model. It also gets an Acoustic Display that routes bass through the screen. Apple didn’t share battery-life figures, which stands out for a thinner device with a brighter display.
