TL; DR
  • The Galaxy Z Fold8 is tipped to use a smaller 2.5 mm selfie camera punch hole on the cover display.
  • That is down from the 3.7 mm cutout used on the Galaxy Z Fold7.
  • This pretty much confirms that Samsung currently has no plans to bring back the under-display selfie camera.

A new leak from Ice Universe suggests the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 will bring a smaller front camera cutout on the cover screen. According to the shared details, the selfie camera punch hole will measure 2.5 mm in diameter.

For comparison, the current Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (review) uses a 3.7 mm punch hole. Side-by-side images shared by the tipster show the difference clearly, with the new opening looking less noticeable on the display.

What Changes This Time

The leak claims Samsung is using a revised camera module that allows the sensor to sit behind a smaller opening while keeping camera performance intact. Samsung has tested under-display cameras in the past, though image quality limitations meant visible cutouts remained the preferred option for the Fold lineup.

A smaller punch hole should slightly increase usable screen space on the 6.5-inch outer display and make the front panel look cleaner when the phone is closed. Current reports also suggest the inner foldable display will continue using a visible camera cutout instead of moving to hidden camera tech.

Launch Timeline

Separate CAD leaks have suggested the Galaxy Z Fold8 may keep a similar footprint to its predecessor, with a slightly thicker body that could make room for a 5,000 mAh battery and possible S Pen support. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold8 in July 2026 alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8, Z Flip8 FE, and the new Wide Fold8.
