Samsung Galaxy A8 and A8+ with 18:9 Display Launched: Price and Specification

Samsung’s upcoming mid-range smartphone is not a mystery anymore. The South Korean firm’s new mid-range smartphones, Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8 Plus (2018), have been officially announced in Europe. The phones might get the global launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in January 2018.

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018) Features

The biggest highlight of Samsung’s 2018 A-series smartphones is their full vision displays. Both smartphones will flaunt the home-made AMOLED displays with 18:9 display ratio and FHD+ resolution. In terms of display size, the Galaxy A8 (2018) flaunts a 5.6-inch display, whereas the Galaxy A8 Plus (2018) gets a 6-inch panel.

The innards of A8 and A8 Plus largely remain the same. They are powered by an Exynos 7885 mobile chipset mated with 4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage. Both devices will incorporate Samsung’s voice-activated Bixby assistant and come IP68 certification, which means they will be dust and water resistant.

In optics, the Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus come with the dual-front camera. That means they will be first Samsung smartphones to have two sensors for selfies. It will have 16MP + 8MP with the f/1.9 aperture on both the sensors. On the back, it has a single 16MP sensor, with f/1.7 aperture.

The dual-sensors on the front mean that users can click portrait shots from the front camera as well. There is also the Live Focus feature to adjust the bokeh effect before or after the selfie has been taken as seen in the Galaxy Note 8.

On the power front, the Galaxy A8 and A8+ are backed by 3,000mAh battery and 3,500mAh battery, respectively. As seen on most other full vision phones, the fingerprint sensor on these handsets too will be on the rear.

The phones are still running on Android 7.1.1. In terms of connectivity, there is NFC, MST for payments, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), Bluetooth v 5.0 (LE up to 2Mbps), ANT+.

The information about the pricing and India availability of devices haven’t been disclosed yet. However, things will become clear as we inch closer to 2018.

Samsung is hosting the launch of its two premium mid-range smartphones, most likely A8 and A8+, at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, which kicks off in January next year. The event could also see the launch of their flagship phones Galaxy S9 and S9+.
