Coolpad today unveiled its “small packs all” phone – the Coolpad Note 5 Lite, which, as the ‘Lite’ moniker suggests, is the scaled down variant of the Coolpad Note 5 (First Impression) that was launched late last year and will retail for 8,199 INR from tomorrow onwards.

This is actually a rebranded Coolpad Conjr, the one that was put forward for Global markets at CES 2017 but failed to turn heads.

The design isn’t ingenious, but the Note 5 Lite still feels quite attractive when held in hands. It’s a compact phone with a 5-inch HD display (70 percent screen-to-body ratio) that’s laden with 2.5D glass on the front, is as metallic as it gets for phones even twice the price, and looks enchanting in Black. You will also be able to procure it in Gold if that’s your thing.

So far so good.

The chipset lying within is where Coolpad cuts some major corners. Yet again. The Note 5 Lite is powered by a feeble 1.0GHz MediaTek MT6735CP processor. This is about the same chip Coolpad has been using repeatedly in its entry-grade phones for more than a year now. And that would have perhaps still been admissible if this was an offline first phone, but in online realms, this really bogs down an otherwise fine (seemingly) phone.

In light of the chipset being used, the 3GB RAM actually feels superfluous. Internal storage is 16GB you can add microSD storage as well. That, however, will have to be done at the expense of second SIM as the SIM tray used is a Hybrid one.

The phone also boasts of a 13MP rear camera that can record up to 720p HD videos and an 8MP front camera that is accompanied by an LED flash.

On the software front, the Note 5 Lite is running Android Marshmallow based Cool UI 8.0. Other notable features include 4G LTE, 2500mAh battery, and a fingerprint sensor.

At the end of the day, Coolpad Note 5 Lite is a pretty regular Coolpad phone which the Chinese manufacturer is marketing to anyone who would rather have a compact handset.
