Coolpad too had a little something to share at CES 2017. The Chinese smartphone maker, known for its panache to trickle down high-end hardware specifications to significantly lower price points than you might expect, conjured the Coolpad Conjr, an entry-level handset with OIS for the rear camera.

Other than that, there is precious little to be excited about here. On the outside, the metal clad Coolpad Conjr looks a lot like Coolpad Note 5, only that it’s a tad more compact housing a 5-inch HD display.

The chipset used is MediaTek’s MT6735CP with four Cortex A53 cores clocked at mere 1GHz. That’s so not 2017 and certainly not befitting to what we would have expected on the CES stage. If it’s some consolation, Coolpad adds 3GB RAM to assist the humble SoC. There is also 16GB storage, Mali T720MP2 GPU and a modest 2500mAh battery fueling all components.

As stated above, the rear 13MP camera benefits from optical image stabilization and a LED flash. Even the front 8MP front shooter is paired with a flash that should help with clicking self-portraits in dark ambiance. The entire package measures 143 x 72 x 8.66 mm and weighs 148 grams.

The Coolpad Conjr price is slated to be ‘below $200’. To start with, Coolpad will pitch this entry-grade handset in the US. It will initially retail in Iron Grey color and the Gold variant will be added later.
