TL; DR
  • Apple is reportedly preparing the MacBook Neo 2 for the first half of 2027, around a year after the original model launched in March 2026.
  • It is expected to feature an A19 Pro chip, 12GB of base memory, and new colors while retaining the existing design.
  • Pricing could increase from the current ₹79,900 starting price, although it should remain cheaper than the MacBook Air.

Apple is reportedly developing a second-generation MacBook Neo for release in the first half of 2027. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the laptop is targeted for launch roughly a year after the original MacBook Neo arrived in March 2026. The first model helped boost Mac shipments even as the broader PC market softened.

MacBook Neo 2: Specifications and Features

Chip and performance

The MacBook Neo 2 is expected to use Apple’s A19 Pro chip, replacing the A18 Pro found in the current model. Earlier reports estimate CPU performance gains of around 10–15% and GPU improvements of up to 40% over the A18 Pro, partly thanks to Neural Accelerators built into the GPU cores.

Like the original, the laptop is expected to use a binned 5-core GPU instead of the fuller GPU configuration found in iPhones. The final performance figures remain unconfirmed.

Memory and storage

The Neo 2 is expected to increase base unified memory from 8GB to 12GB. The original model’s 8GB limit restricted heavier multitasking and prevented support for some on-device Apple Intelligence features that require more memory.

The additional memory should improve multitasking and give the laptop more headroom for newer software. Storage options have not been confirmed, although a 256GB base configuration with higher-capacity variants would follow the original model’s setup.

The first MacBook Neo offered 256GB and 512GB storage options, with the 512GB variant also including Touch ID.

Display and design

Apple is expected to retain the existing 13-inch Liquid Retina display and aluminum chassis, with no major design changes planned. The original display has a 2408 x 1506 resolution.

New color options are reportedly in development. The first model came in Silver, Blush, Citrus, and Indigo, but the additional colors have not been revealed.

Ports, keyboard and battery

The original MacBook Neo has two USB-C ports, but only one supports data transfers beyond USB 2.0 speeds. It also includes a headphone jack but lacks MagSafe charging and keyboard backlighting.

It remains unclear whether Apple will address these limitations in the second generation. Battery capacity and display changes are also unknown.

MacBook Neo 2 Price and Launch Date

The MacBook Neo 2 is expected to launch in the first half of 2027, with March a possibility given the original model’s launch timing.

The first MacBook Neo launched at ₹69,900, with education buyers paying ₹59,900. Apple raised the starting price to ₹79,900 in June amid higher memory and storage costs.

The Neo 2 could cost more because of component prices and the expected chip and memory upgrades. However, it is still expected to remain cheaper than the MacBook Air, with students, families, and first-time Mac buyers remaining its primary audience.
