Maruti Suzuki has started testing the next update to its popular car, the Fronx. First spy shots of the upcoming Fronx facelift have leaked and despite the heavy camouflage, the rumour mill is on it and we know quite a bit about the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The update is expected to bring minor design and styling updates, extra safety and convenience features, and a switch to the company’s newer 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine.

What The Prototype Shows
The test mule that has been spotted on multiple occasions looks to be the same shape and silhouette as the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. We also see the two-tier lighting with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, with slim lamp units on top and the headlamps sitting below it. The images hint at a slight change in the grille pattern, and the bumpers seem to have changed a bit.

The rear lamps are still partly wrapped, so their new look is unclear. The sloping roofline, rear spoiler and overall proportions of the Fronx seem untouched, and the alloy wheels appear to be carried over. In short, the visual changes look subtle, which is normal for a mid-cycle update. Because the camouflage still covers parts of the grille and tail lamps, the production design could differ from what these images suggest.

Rear Discs, ADAS Likely On Offer
Rear disc brakes appear to be fitted, and that is the most intriguing find. Today’s India-spec Fronx pairs front discs with rear drums in every variant, so the change, if real, would be a notable mechanical upgrade.

The hidden section of the grille could also house an ADAS sensor, mirroring the approach on the Baleno facelift. If fitted, the Level 2 ADAS system could offer adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and high-beam assistance. None of this is confirmed, but rear discs and ADAS together would make this facelift more than just a cosmetic refresh.
Cabin Upgrades Likely
Now given how less is known and leaked about the car so far, the interior of the Fronx still remains unknown. However, given that the Baleno was recently updated, we can expect new features like seat ventilation, a wireless charger, new upholstery, and an updated audio setup in the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
New Engine Expected
Under the bonnet, the 1.2-litre four-cylinder K-Series petrol is expected to be replaced by the newer 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-Series. The engine debuted in the fourth-generation Swift in May 2024, and now powers the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the updated Baleno, and the latest Toyota Glanza facelift that we saw earlier this month.

As the Fronx shares its platform and underlying architecture with the Baleno, it is likely that the new Fronx will also be powered with the same engine as the Baleno. The Z12E engine on the Baleno and Toyota Glanza makes about 83 PS and 112.4 Nm, which gives a useful benchmark. The Fronx also offers a separate 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, and this expected change concerns only the 1.2-litre petrol.

Sales Backdrop
Timing is favourable for Maruti. The Fronx was India’s sixth best-selling car in April to September 2026 at 1,10,135 units, up 43.40% year on year. It also led the country’s car exports in the same period with 46,147 units.
Five trims are on sale today: Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha. Buyers can pick petrol manual, AMT, turbo-petrol automatic or CNG, depending on the variant. Prices currently run from ₹6.9 lakh to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelift should stay in roughly the same price bracket, though extra equipment may add a premium to some variants.

Toyota sells a rebadged Fronx as the Urban Cruiser Taisor, and it may be updated after Maruti’s version, just as the Glanza followed the Baleno. No launch date has been announced for either of the cars. The test mule sighting shows development testing has begun, and the Fronx facelift is expected within months, probably at the Bharat Auto Expo in February 2027. Buyers weighing a Fronx today may want to factor in that wait.
