TL; DR
  • 2026 Maruti Brezza offers four powertrain options, including a new 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine.
  • Updated 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic transmissions improve efficiency and driving refinement.
  • Buyers can choose petrol, automatic, CNG, or turbo variants based on performance and running costs.

The 2026 Maruti Suzuki Brezza facelift arrives with the most diverse powertrain lineup the nameplate has ever carried. For the first time, buyers get the choice from four distinct powertrain configurations: a naturally aspirated (NA) petrol with a manual, the same engine paired with a torque converter automatic, a factory-fitted CNG option, and an all-new 1.0-liter turbo-petrol.

Here’s a breakdown of all four, including which variants each is available in.

1. 1.5-Litre Naturally Aspirated Petrol (Manual)

The entry point into the Brezza lineup remains the 1.5-liter NA petrol engine. However, it’s paired with a new 6-speed manual transmission.

This makes it a meaningful refinement even for those sticking with the base powertrain, as the sixth gear will bring down the highway cruising RPMs significantly, which should also increase the fuel economy.

The slight mileage difference between variants, 21.09 kmpl on the LXi and VXi versus 20.81 kmpl on the ZXi, is attributable to the ZXi’s additional weight from extra features and equipment.

2. 1.5-Litre Naturally Aspirated Petrol (Automatic)

The automatic version of the same 1.5-liter engine uses a 6-speed torque converter unit (the same as the outgoing model).

The automatic is not offered on the base LXi variant, something to keep in mind if you’re considering the torque converter unit. The ZXi+ is the top variant, and it is available exclusively with this automatic gearbox.

3. 1.5-Litre NA Petrol + CNG (Manual)

The factory-fitted CNG (underbody) option is available across three of the four variants and pairs the same 1.5-liter NA engine. Power drops to 88 PS and torque to 121.5 Nm in CNG mode, which is expected. Due to the sixth gear, the CNG powertrain now offers an even higher claimed mileage: 26.90 km/kg instead of 25.51 km/kg.

Speaking from some experience, Maruti’s cars are known to offer more mileage than the claimed figures. With that in mind, the new CNG version could be the best bet for daily highway commuters or buyers who want to keep their running cost as low as possible.

4. 1.0-Litre Turbo-Petrol (Manual): The New Addition

The most significant powertrain addition with this facelift is the 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, borrowed from the Maruti Fronx. It’s the performance-oriented choice in the lineup, producing 110 PS and a notably higher 170 Nm of torque.

The turbo-petrol is the only powertrain available across all four variants. However, it is currently manual-only; there is no automatic option for the turbo engine.
