Xiaomi Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite Launched Globally; India Launch On August 8 [Updated]

Unfortunately, Mi A2 is missing the 3.5mm audio jack.

Update: Xiaomi Mi A2 India Launch is confirmed for August 8.

Xiaomi unveiled its much-anticipated Mi A2 at a global launch event in Spain on Tuesday. The successor of Mi A1 is also a part of Google’s Android One platform and runs the latest iteration of vanilla Android. In today’s announcement, the Mi A2 was joined by a stripped down sibling dubbed as Mi A2 Lite as well.

Contrary to what was rumored, the global variant of Mi A2 does not have a 3.5mm audio jack, which is surely a bummer.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Features and Highlights

As expected, the Mi A2 is an Android One version of the Mi 6X that launched in China earlier in April this year. The Xiaomi Mi A2 gets a 5.99-inch full-HD+ IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio.

Xiaomi has equipped the Mi A2 with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset with Kryo 260 cores clocking up to 2.2GHz. The Chipset is aided by Adreno 512 GPU and X12 LTE Modem.

At the launch, Xiaomi had a lot to talk about the Mi A2 camera. The Mi A2 has a 20MP primary rear shooter which is coupled with a secondary 12MP snapper. While both the Mi A2 Lite rear cameras come with large f/1.75 aperture and Sony IMX486 sensors. The Mi A2 also includes a 20-megapixel selfie camera with selfie flash. Both front and rear cameras are AI driven and claim to offer much-improved battery performance.

The Mi A2 comes with up to 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and up to 128GB eMMC storage. For connectivity, the Mi A2 will come with 4G with support for VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C. Fueling, the smartphone is a 3,010mAh battery. The Mi A2 will be upgraded to the Android P and will support Google’s new navigation gestures. 

Xiaomi Mi A2 India Prices

At the Spain launch, Xiaomi announced Mi A2 Price for 4GB RAM +32GB storage variant is 249 euros (approx. Rs 20,079). The Mi A2 4GB + 64GB price is set at 279 euros which roughly translate to Rs 22,498. The Mi A2 6GB RAM with 128GB storage variant is to retail for 349 Euros which converts to Rs 22,498 (approx.)

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Features and Highlights

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, on the other hand, is basically a rebranded version of the Redmi 6 Pro without MIUI. Like the Mi A2, its trimmed down version will be a part of the Android One program and comes running on pure Android Oreo. The phone will also receive Android P at a later stage.

Xiaomi’s love for the Snapdragon 625 chipset is not ending anytime soon. The Mi A2 Lite is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 coupled with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM.

On the optic front, the Mi A2 Lite packs a dual camera setup that includes 12MP sensor accompanied by a 5MP secondary sensor for depth sensing. The Mi A2 is fueled by a capacious 4000mAh battery.

Mi A2 Lite India Price

The Mi A2 Lite base variant, i.e the one with 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, is priced at euros 179 which roughly converts to Rs 14,434 (approx) whereas 4GB RAM with 64GB storage is priced at euro 229 which translate to Rs 18,466 (approx).

Mi A2 and A2 Lite Availability and India Launch

Both Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite will go on sale in Spain starting from August 10th, in France from July 27th, in Italy from August 8th. The Mi A2 will be debuting in 40 other countries soon that also includes India. However, Xiaomi seems to be not in a mood to launch the Mi A2 Lite in India anytime soon.
