Vivo V40 Vs. Xiaomi 14 Civi Vs. OnePlus 12R: Design
The Vivo V40 features a punch-hole display on the front, with minimal bezels on all sides. On the rear, there’s a rather large pill-shaped camera housing that’s placed on the top left. With regards to colors, the smartphone is available in three colors, including Ganges Blue, Lotus Purple, and Titanium Gray. To protect against submersion and accidental exposure to water, the phone comes with an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.
Unlike the Vivo V40, the Xiaomi 14 Civi features a dual-punch hole setup on the front (similar to the pill-shaped cutout on the iPhone 15). On the rear, the smartphone features a circular camera module that houses three sensors. At the time of launch, the handset was available in three finishes: Cruise Blue, Matcha Green, and Shadow Black. However, most recently, the company has added three new colors: Aqua Blue, Panda White, and Hot Pink. This particular model ships with an IP54 rating.
The OnePlus 12R, like the flagship OnePlus 12, features a punch-hole display on the front and a circular camera module (that seems to be connected to the frame) on the rear. The smartphone comes in three colors: Sunset Dune, Iron Gray, and Cool Blue. It is worth mentioning that the device has an IP64 rating.
Vivo V40 Vs. Xiaomi 14 Civi Vs. OnePlus 12R: Display
The Vivo V40 ships with a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen with a pixel density of 453 ppi and a local peak brightness of 4,500 nits. It’s important to mention that only a certain part of the screen gets as bright as the number mentioned above (while watching HDR content). Besides, the screen supports a 120Hz refresh rate and has an aspect ratio of 20:9.
The Xiaomi 14 Civi has a slightly smaller 6.55-inch 1.5K curved AMOLED (20:9) screen with a pixel density of 446 ppi and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. Other features include support for a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10+, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and a PWM dimming rate of 2,160Hz. The display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection against scratches.
The OnePlus 12R, like the Vivo V40, ships with a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED ProXDR display with LTPO 4.0 technology that facilitates a dynamic refresh rate (1-120Hz). While the smartphone is capable of achieving a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, it maxes out at 1,600 nits in the high brightness mode. Additional features include a touch response rate of up to 1,000Hz, a PWM rate of 2,160Hz, support for HDR10+, sRGB, and Display P3 color space. The phone also features Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection.
Although all three phones have an AMOLED panel, Xiaomi’s 14 Civi and OnePlus 12R feature Gorilla Glass. On top of that, the OnePlus 12R seems to offer a more seamless experience with a dynamic refresh rate.

Vivo V40 Vs. Xiaomi 14 Civi Vs. OnePlus 12R: Processor
When it comes to performance, the Vivo V40 comes with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC (4nm), which comprises one prime core clocked at 2.63GHz, three balanced cores at 2.4GHz, and four efficient cores at 1.8GHz. Accompanying the processor is the Adreno 720 GPU, up to 12GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. For those wondering, the processor scores 1,139 points in the single-core and 3,375 points in the multi-core GeekBench 6 tests (via NanoReview).
The Xiaomi 14 Civi runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC (4nm), which is based on the same fabrication technology as the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. To provide a near-flagship experience, the chip features a 3.0GHz prime core, four balanced cores at 2.8GHz, and three efficient cores at 2.0GHz. With the CPU, users also get the Adreno 735 GPU, up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. For easy comparison, the processor scores 2,019 points on the single-core and 5,570 points on the multi-core GeekBench 6 benchmark.
The OnePlus 12R is the only smartphone on the comparison to feature a flagship Qualcomm chipset: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC (4nm). It is the same chipset we’ve seen on 2023’s Android flagships like the Galaxy S23 (review) series and the OnePlus 11. Even in 2024, the processor stands its ground as a powerful and efficient chipset with one 3.2GHz prime core, four 2.8GHz performance cores, and three 2.0GHz efficient cores. With the CPU, customers get an Adreno 740 GPU, up to 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The GeekBench 6 benchmark scores of the processor are as follows: 1,991 points on the single-core and 5,299 points on the multi-core tests.
While the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC doesn’t stand a chance against 8 Series chips on the other two phones, it indicates how the phone’s price puts it in competition with the models with a more powerful processor. Otherwise, it is the Xiaomi 14 Civi that steals the show with its Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.0 storage.
Vivo V40 Vs. Xiaomi 14 Civi Vs. OnePlus 12R: Cameras
The regular Vivo V40 ships with a dual camera setup co-engineered with Zeiss. While the primary camera is a 50MP (f/1.9, OIS) sensor, the secondary camera is a 50MP (f/2.0, 110-degree) ultrawide sensor with autofocus. Besides the camera setup, users get a ring-LED flash unit. On the front, users get a 50MP (f/2.0, 21-mm) wide selfie shooter. The primary and selfie cameras can record 4K videos at 30 fps.
The Xiaomi 14 Civi, on the other hand, features a 50MP (f/1.6, OIS) primary camera, a 50MP (f/2.0, 50mm) 2x telephoto camera, and a 12MP (f/2.2, 120-degree) ultrawide camera. With the primary camera, users can shoot videos in 4K at 60 fps. What’s interesting is that the smartphone also features dual-front facing cameras: a 32MP (f/2.0) wide-angle shooter and a 32MP (f/2.4,100-degree) ultra-wide shooter. However, the selfie cameras can only shoot 4K videos at 30 fps.
The OnePlus 12R doesn’t match up with others. It sports a 50MP (f/1.8, OIS) primary sensor, an 8MP (f/2.2, 112-degree) ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP (f/2.4) macro shooter. To click selfies and attend video calls, users get a 16MP (f/2.4) sensor on the front. While the primary sensor can record videos in 4K at 60 fps, the front camera is capped at 1080p (30 fps).
Hence, the Vivo V40 has a pretty decent camera system, especially for those who like how it processes images. Those looking for a telephoto camera can opt for the Xiaomi 14 Civi.
Vivo V40 Vs. Xiaomi 14 Civi Vs. OnePlus 12R: Battery & Charging
Regarding battery, the Vivo V40 features a 5,500 mAh battery that supports 80W fast wired charging. What’s more is that you get the fast charger in the box.
The Xiaomi 14 Civi features a smaller 4,700 mAh battery that supports 67W wired charging. Per the company, the phone can charge up to 100% within 40 minutes. You also get a 67W power brick with the phone.
The OnePlus 12R sports a 5,500 mAh battery that supports 100W wired charging, which can charge up the phone to 100% in less than half an hour. With the phone, buyers get a 100W power adapter.
Even though all phones ship with a power adapter in the box, the Vivo V40 and the OnePlus 12R should provide a longer battery life with day-to-day usage.
