TL; DR
- Krafton India confirms BGMI Lite will launch in the country by the end of 2026.
- Exact release date, pricing, and gameplay specifics have not yet been revealed.
- PUBG Mobile Lite’s 60-player maps and shorter matches offer a possible reference point.
Krafton India has officially confirmed that BGMI Lite, a lighter version of the popular battle royale title, will launch in the country by the end of 2026. It will end years of speculation that trace back to PUBG Mobile Lite’s ban in 2020.

BGMI Lite: Availability & What We Know So Far
Krafton hasn’t revealed an exact release date nor a pricing structure. Pre-registration for the title begins August 25, 2026; more details are expected closer to launch. For now, the company has announced BGMI Lite itself arrived through a short video on BGMI’s official YouTube channel titled “You Asked. We Listened. BGMI LITE Coming Soon.”
A dedicated Instagram handle is live for the title as well.

Why A Lighter BGMI Makes Sense Right Now
Right now, the standard BGMI game demands meaningful processing power, RAM, and, more importantly, storage (up front). These requirements put it out of reach for many budget and older Android devices. Even new smartphones around ₹20,000 can’t run the game at moderate settings without noticeable frame drops (I’m talking about the Redmi Note 17 that I reviewed recently).
Notably, rising RAM prices and a broader industry shift toward AI-focused chipsets have made this problem more pressing recently, not less. This gives Krafton a clear reason to expand accessibility right now.

What A Lite Version Might Look Like
Krafton’s own PUBG Mobile Lite, discontinued in India alongside the original PUBG Mobile ban, is the closest reference point. It required a smaller install size, a reduced 60-player map instead of 100, and considerably shorter matches averaging around 10 minutes each. For those catching up, PUBG Mobile Lite required less than 2GB of RAM. Krafton has explicitly cautioned that none of these specifics are confirmed for BGMI Lite, so that people don’t draw any conclusions.

I think the timing here says as much as the announcement itself. With entry-level smartphones increasingly shipping tighter RAM allocations to accommodate on-device AI features, a lighter BGMI isn’t just a nostalgia play for old PUBG Mobile Lite fans.
