Vivo has a good thing going with its selfie phones. And to conserve the momentum it has built over time, the Chinese Smartphone maker has now launched the Vivo Y66 in India, priced at 14,990 INR.

This isn’t, however, the same Vivo Y66 that was launched in China late last year. In fact, Vivo has rebranded the Vivo V5 Lite as Y66 in India. For some reason, the company doesn’t want this to be associated with the V5 series that already has the Vivo V5 and the Vivo V5 Plus (Full Review).

On the face of it, the Vivo Y66 looks the same as the Vivo V5. Or any other Vivo phone for that matter. It’s slim, quite comfortable to hold in hands, is adorned by a 2.5D touch glass on the front, and the V5-series signature moonlight flash accompanies the front 16MP selfie camera.

So, what’s different between Vivo V5 and Vivo Y66? Well, the most prominent difference is the missing fingerprint sensor on the Vivo Y66. The Y66 also has slightly lesser RAM (3GB VS 4GB) and a fewer Megapixels up front (16MP VS 20MP), but that shouldn’t make much of a difference to end user experience.

Apart from the above-mentioned differences, both phones have the same 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6750 octa-core chipset, expandable storage, Android Marshmallow based FuntouchOS, dual SIM support, 4G VoLTE and 3000mAh battery.

So yes,  I think it’s safe to assume that what you are getting with the Vivo Y66 is the Vivo V5 experience minus the fingerprint sensor. And in case you are buying, our Vivo V5 review shall give you a good idea of what you are getting into.
