TL; DR
  • At 4.5mm unfolded and ~9.8mm folded, the Z Fold7 is much thinner than the Z Fold6 but still behind the OPPO Find N5. It will also be 11mm wider than the Z Fold6.
  • The Z Fold7 looks like the Z Fold6, but with slimmer bezels, a more streamlined hinge, and possibly reduced crease.
  • It is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, but is still stuck with a 4,400 mAh battery. Camera upgrade expected with a 200 MP sensor.

Samsung’s next foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold7, is shaping up to be the company’s thinnest yet. It has been leaked by Android Headlines, giving us our first detailed look at Samsung’s next-generation foldable. While the design doesn’t stray far from the Z Fold6, it’s probably the biggest change for Samsung’s Z Fold in a long time.

A Familiar Design

At first glance, the Z Fold7 looks nearly identical to the Z Fold6—same book-style fold, same vertical camera layout, and a sleek aluminum frame. But Samsung has made subtle refinements. The bezels on the inner display seem slightly slimmer, and the hinge appears more streamlined, likely improving durability and reducing the crease (we’re not sure about this one).

The Galaxy Z Fold7 is Thin

According to Android Headlines, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is 4.5mm when unfolded. Simple logic might suggest that folded, it would be 9mm (4.5mm x 2), but that’s not how it works. The display bezels and the gap between the two halves need to be accounted for. Based on previous models, the Fold7 should actually be around 9.8mm when folded.

For reference, the Galaxy Z Fold6 SE was 4.9mm when unfolded and 10.6mm when folded—a difference of 0.8mm due to additional structural elements. The Z Fold6 itself was 5.6mm unfolded and 12.1mm folded, making the Fold7 about 2.3mm thinner than its predecessor when shut.

And then there’s the camera bump. Android Headlines suggests that it adds just 0.5mm, which seems unlikely given past designs. If Samsung is indeed using the new 200 MP sensor on the Z Fold6 SE, the camera bump will definitely be thicker than just 0.5mm.

Still, this puts the Z Fold7 among the thinnest book-style foldables, but it won’t be the thinnest. That title goes to the OPPO Find N5, which is 4.2mm unfolded and 8.93mm folded. The Fold7 will be a little bit thicker than the world’s thinnest foldable, but much thinner than the Z Fold6.

Bigger and Wider Displays

The Fold7 is expected to feature an 8.2-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover screen, making it slightly larger than before. The overall dimensions of 158.4 x 143.1 x 4.5mm suggest an 11mm wider outer display, addressing one of Samsung’s long-standing issues—narrow cover screens that aren’t the most comfortable to type on. The Fold6 measured 153.5 x 132.6 x 5.6 mm.

Snapdragon 8 Elite and a Familiar Battery

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7

Under the hood, Samsung will be using the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, the same chip found in the S25 series. There are rumors of a 7-core variant for improved thermals, but that remains unconfirmed. The Exynos 2500 is mentioned in some leaks, but considering Samsung’s custom Qualcomm partnership, it seems unlikely.

We’re not expecting a lot of changes when it comes to the battery. Samsung is reportedly keeping the 4,400 mAh battery for yet another year. For comparison, other brands are doing 5,600 mAh batteries in even thinner bodies, thanks to Silicon Carbon.

We’re also hearing tumors of a slightly thicker S Pen for the Z Fold7. However, we are not sure if Samsung will retain the Bluetooth Air Action features or not.

Camera Upgrades (Finally)

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7

Cameras have been a weak point for Samsung’s foldables, but the Fold7 might change that (to some extent). A 200 MP primary sensor (like the Z Fold6 SE) is expected, alongside a 12 MP ultra-wide and a 10 MP 3X telephoto. The cover screen will likely house a 10 MP selfie camera, while the under-display inner camera remains 4 MP.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 Launch Timeline

Samsung has been moving up its foldable launches every year, but with the Galaxy S25 series arriving slightly later than usual, the Z Fold7 might follow suit. Expect an announcement in mid-July 2025, with sales beginning shortly after.
