In a few months, Samsung will reveal its Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, the next-generation foldable smartphones that sport new features. Similarly, Google plans to release the Pixel Fold 2 with a new camera module and improved specifications. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus could have been a part of this foldable fest by taking off the curtains from the OnePlus Open 2, but that might happen next year.

Delay In Oppo’s Find N5 Postpones OnePlus Open 2’s Launch

Oppo Find N3 renders

According to @That_Kartikey on X (formerly known as Twitter), Oppo will not release the Find N5 series this year. The company seems to have postponed the launch to 2025. Based on this, the X user claims that OnePlus won’t launch its Open 2 in 2024 either.

For those catching up, OnePlus’ first foldable phone, the OnePlus Open, was a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N3, which debuted in China. Further, recent rumors claimed that the OnePlus Open 2 will follow a similar trend, i.e., it will be based on the Oppo Find N5 series that debuts in the country.

However, since Oppo seems to be delaying its Find N5 series until it comes out, we won’t get a OnePlus Open 2 either.

OnePlus Fold 2 Could Become The First Foldable To Feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Next Year

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC

While Samsung and Google are gearing up to release their next-generation foldables this year, it looks like OnePlus won’t be one of them. Nonetheless, another tipster adds to the mill, stating that the OnePlus Open 2 could come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, which is scheduled for launch later this year at the Snapdragon Summit.

Open 2 Should Be Based On Its Predecessor – For The Most Of It

Back in 2023, the OnePlus Open debuted with a 7.82-inch 2K AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,800 nits of brightness. The device’s cover screen was a 6.31-inch 2K AMOLED panel with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the foldable ran on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

On the back panel, the phone houses a triple camera setup with dedicated sensors for clicking ultrawide, regular, and zoomed-in images. Last but not least, the phone was powered by a 4,805 mAh battery that supported 67W fast charging. Check out more details about the OnePlus Open, including its pros and cons, in our detailed review here.

The OnePlus Open 2 could feature the same displays but with a more subtle crease. Further, it could become the first foldable to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC in 2025. Although the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 also features AI-processing capabilities, debuting with the even more powerful SD 8 Gen 4 will give OnePlus the room to include some on-device processing. We also expect the foldable to ship with a larger battery and a more refined camera system.
