OnePlus has launched the OnePlus 16 in China, bringing its latest flagship chipset, a high-refresh-rate display and a 9,000mAh battery. The phone starts at CNY 5,999 (around ₹85,846) for the 12GB + 256GB model. OnePlus has not announced a global launch, and the regular OnePlus 16 is not expected to reach India.

OnePlus 16 Specifications

The OnePlus 16 runs on Qualcomm’s 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, paired with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. It also has a 6,428mm² vapour chamber for cooling. The phone has a flat 6.78-inch BOE X4 LTPO OLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 185Hz in China. The panel supports a 2,000-nit HBM and 3,840Hz PWM dimming, with OPPO Crystal Shield Glass protecting the screen. The bezels measure just 1.15mm.

For photography, the OnePlus 16 has a triple rear camera setup. The main camera uses a 200MP Samsung HPE sensor measuring 1/1.4 inches, with OIS. It is joined by a 50MP OV50D ultra-wide camera with a 1/2.88-inch sensor and a 50MP Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto camera.

The telephoto uses a 1/1.95-inch sensor and supports 3X optical zoom at a 73mm equivalent focal length. A 50MP Sony JN5 camera with a 1/2.75-inch sensor handles selfies.

9,000 mAh Battery, 100W Charging and ColorOS 17

Will the OnePlus 16 Launch in India?

An India launch for the regular OnePlus 16 looks unlikely. Reports over the past month, including comments from tipster Yogesh Brar, have pointed to the phone remaining exclusive to China.

The OnePlus 16R is instead expected to take the top spot in the company’s Indian lineup. Brar’s recent production validation test leak suggests a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a triple 50MP rear camera setup with a dedicated telephoto lens, a 165Hz display and a battery larger than 7,500mAh. The same hardware is reportedly being tested under realme branding.
