TL; DR
  • Tipster Digital Chat Station says the OnePlus 16’s China launch has shifted from September to October 2026 due to a crowded release schedule.
  • Expected to retain the OnePlus 15’s design with a 6.78-inch flat display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, ~9,000mAh battery, 100W charging, and a 200MP main camera.
  • A separate leak claims the OnePlus 16 may not launch in India.

The OnePlus 16 seems to have a revised launch window. While previous leaks suggested that the flagship could break cover in September 2026, a renowned Chinese tipster now pushes back the launch timeline to the usual Chinese launch schedule. This is around the same time the OnePlus 15 (review) launched, so it seems more likely.

OnePlus 16’s Launch Should Take Place In October 2026

Tipster Digital Chat Station, a consistently reliable source for Chinese Android flagship information, has shared fresh details about an engineering prototype of the OnePlus 16 on Weibo. The tipster now places the OnePlus 16’s China debut in October, walking back an earlier prediction of a September launch.

The shift reportedly comes down to a crowded late-September release calendar. To me, it sounds like the tipster is referring to the iPhone 18 Pro variants that will go on sale toward the second half of September, and it only makes sense not to let the OnePlus flagship’s launch collide with that of the iPhone.

OnePlus 16: Design And Specifications (Rumored)

The OnePlus 16 prototype continues to follow the brand’s established design direction rather than introducing a major visual overhaul. It is said to feature a 6.78-inch flat display with ultra-narrow, symmetrical bezels enabled by LIPO packaging technology. Previous reports have also claimed that the bezels could measure under 1mm.

OnePlus 16’s screen, on the other hand, is rumored to support a refresh rate of up to 185Hz. Further, it could retain the compact square rear camera module that debuted on the OnePlus 15. Under the hood, the OnePlus 16 is expected to run on Qualcomm’s yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, built on a 2nm process node.

While it might sound like good news for overall CPU and GPU performance, both TSMC and Qualcomm are reportedly increasing the prices of their chips, which could add to the OnePlus 16’s consumer price in addition to surging memory costs. The tipster also claims that the flagship will feature a  9,000mAh battery with support for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.

What I’m most concerned about is whether the brand will launch the OnePlus 16 in India or skip the region entirely and fill the gap with an Oppo flagship. If that happens, the OnePlus 16 could be China-only. OnePlus has not confirmed any details officially.
