OnePlus 16 Roundup: Table of Contents

The OnePlus 16 will be a crucial smartphone, especially as it arrives amid an operational rollercoaster for the brand. In July 2026, OnePlus pulled out of the North American, Canadian, and European markets, offering only software updates and service for existing devices there. However, the brand remains functional in China, its native market, and India, and promised to focus on the two as its priority markets.

That makes the upcoming OnePlus 16 a real test for a brand that has been fully merged into its parent company, Oppo, and where the collective philosophy and strategy stand now. In fact, OnePlus has already confirmed the flagship’s existence at the Snapdragon Gaming Technology Awards event.

That said, plenty of rumors and reports have given us a good idea of what OnePlus plans to offer in design, display, performance, software, and cameras.

OnePlus 16 Tech Specs: Availability & Price

The OnePlus 16 is expected to go official in its native market, China, in October 2026. An Indian launch is expected sometime in November 2026. While the Chinese price could be around ₹70,000 to ₹90,000, it could cost around ₹90,000 to ₹1 lakh in India.

I strongly believe that the company wouldn’t try to breach the ₹1 lakh segment, but nothing can be said with surely due to the worsening memory and component crisis.

OnePlus 16: Design

ElementStatusDetails
Rear camera layoutContestedSquare module (like OnePlus 15) vs circular module, per a since-unverified teaser poster
BezelsMost LikelySub-1mm bezels on all four sides
Frame/buildRumouredFlat sides, similar to OnePlus 15

IP ratingMost LikelyIP68/IP69 dust and water resistance
Vibration motorRumouredX-axis “bionic” motor

The OnePlus 15 (review) debuted with a squared-off camera module on the back, with rounded edges that complemented the phone’s rounded corners. That design choice created a subtle yet noticeable look. Since only the current generation replaced the circular camera module with a square one, I believe it could be featured before the company makes another major change.

However, a more solid leak about the OnePlus 16 hints at sub-1mm symmetrical bezels. If that happens, the purported flagship will feature the thinnest screen borders among its mainstream competitors. The screen should feature a flat panel, similar to the OnePlus 15, along with flat side frames.

The OnePlus 15 already features a 7,300 mAh battery, larger than what you find in almost all flagship smartphones. Despite that, the smartphone has a side profile of 8.1mm, which is thinner than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It weighs either 211 or 215 grams. Now, the OnePlus 16 is rumored to feature a 9,000 mAh battery, which is substantially bigger than that on the current generation.

So, the OnePlus 16 could either maintain its thickness at 8.1mm, or the battery might add a couple of millimeters. The same could be said about the handset’s weight. IP rating, on the other hand, could carry over unchanged from the OnePlus 15. Overall, you could expect the smartphone to follow the same glass-metal-glass design approach like its contemporaries.

OnePlus 16: Display

Refresh rate165Hz (global), 185Hz (gaming)

While the design might not be as big an upgrade, the display definitely sounds like one. Per recent rumors, the OnePlus 16’s display could introduce major upgrades in efficiency, bezel design, and refresh-rate processing.

First, the handset could come with a next-generation BOE X4 Oriental Screen, with the latest-generation X4 light-emitting material. The X4 panel reportedly requires much less energy and offers up to twice the visual lifespan compared to regular OLED alternatives. It is also said to offer improved peak brightness and color space.

The handset is also expected to feature a 165Hz native screen, which could be overclocked to 185Hz for gaming. To ensure the higher refresh rate or switching doesn’t drain your battery, OnePlus is also rumored to include an upgraded, custom display chip to handle the frame rate and LTPO calibration.

I’ve already covered the bezels part earlier. A brighter display with thinner bezels could give the OnePlus 16 a futuristic look. The resolution and pixel density might remain the same, though.

OnePlus has already confirmed a few details about the flagship’s chipset, well, sort of. In July, the company’s China General Manager Liu Baoyou officially took the stage at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Gaming Technology Awards event, confirming two things. First, the handset will run on Qualcomm’s upcoming next-generation flagship Snapdragon.

Second, the company also talked about three exclusive upgrades coming to the device. First, the OnePlus 16 will feature an upgraded Fengchi gaming kernel that minimizes sudden frame drops during intense gaming sessions. Then there’s the dedicated chip to handle the 165Hz/185Hz refresh rates we talked about earlier.

Finally, there’s the e-sports triple-chip system, which offloads frame generation, motion tracking, and heavy gaming rendering away from the main chipset, allowing the primary chip to maintain maximum clock speeds. These are the things the companies have already confirmed.

What they didn’t announce, but what all leaks still seem to agree on, is the chipset name: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. It is believed to break the 5 GHz barrier. Two prime cores on the handset could be clocked around 5 GHz, which could be a first for Qualcomm’s chip. Furthermore, the chipset will almost certainly be based on TSMC’s 2nm fabrication technology.

Some early benchmark testing points toward a CPU leap of around 20%. The Adreno 850 GPU, on the other hand, could feature a 3-slice GPU layout with 18MB of dedicated high-performance graphics memory.  This could also help improve the overall lighting physics and complex textures, and, of course, hardware-accelerated ray tracing on the device.

The new LPDDR6 memory could also bring more than double the memory bandwidth (from 6.4 Gbps to around 14.4 Gbps). However, remember, all the details mentioned here, except those confirmed by the brand directly in the July event, are based on rumors and reports.

India-specific statusUncertain; India launch itself not confirmed

OnePlus is phasing out OxygenOS, merging its custom UI with Oppo’s ColorOS. As a result, the OnePlus 16 could debut with ColorOS 17 based on Android 17 (right out of the box). Earlier this month, the brand announced its first ColorOS beta for eligible smartphones, taking a concrete step in that direction.

ColorOS 17 could feature familiar features like Plus Mind for analyzing what’s on your display, along with Mind Space for saving the extracted data and coming back to it later. It will also feature the Plus Key shortcut. Other than that, the UI could get Dynamic Live Alerts for letting you track the progress of real-time micro-events, along with Flow Motion Rendering for smooth window transitions.

Since ColorOS 17 is based on Android 17 under the hood, OnePlus could also pass on some Android 17-specific updates to its users, including Universal App Bubbles, the dual recording bar integrated in the screen recording tool, and the granular permissions controls.

The OnePlus 15 was a subtle downgrade over the OnePlus 13 in the camera department. Because it ended its partnership with Hasselblad, OnePlus had to rejig the sensors, swapping the bigger, more capable sensors for smaller ones paired with its new DetailMax Engine. However, software can only make up for missing hardware to an extent, and that showed.

The good news, however, is that OnePlus 16 could fix this. The handset is rumored to get a major camera overhaul with new sensors across the board. First, it could get a 200MP primary camera that’s based on a 1/1.4-inch sensor. The larger sensor will not only capture more light, resulting in clearer pictures with less noise, but also improve digital cropping.

While the optical zoom reach of the telephoto camera could drop from 3.5x to 3x, OnePlus could back it up with a much larger 1/1.95-inch Sony sensor. The ultrawide sensor could improve edge-to-edge clarity, while the selfie camera could be upgraded to a 50MP shooter with true autofocus.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro could also bring significant ISP upgrades. These could result in virtually zero shutter lag, improved dynamic range, and the ability to capture video streams from three cameras simultaneously.

OnePlus 16: Battery Life & Charging

Battery capacity~9,000mAh (dual-cell)7,000mAh6,510mAh
Wired charging100-120W (disputed)100W90W

One of the strongest rumors about the OnePlus 16 is its 9,000 mAh battery. This could be the first time that a company has included a power bank-level battery in a flagship smartphone. The OnePlus 15 already lasted between 11 and 12 hours of active screen time between charges. The OnePlus 16 might take that level closer to 13 to 14 hours, perhaps even 15 with light usage.

The OnePlus 15 was already in the two-day battery territory. The OnePlus 16 could push that threshold to three days of battery life with lighter usage. It could also support 100W or 120W charging and 50W wireless charging. Together, the battery and charging combination could outlast all the other mainstream flagships available in India, and that will be a big feat.

OnePlus 16: Conclusion

Except for its design, the OnePlus 16 is expected to get major upgrades across the board, making it one of the best smartphones money can buy, or at least that is what it looks like from the rumors. A huge chunk of that also depends on how the company pieces everything together.

Moreover, it’s going to be an important smartphone for the company, especially since it will only be released in China and India, and not the dollar-prone Western markets. If you’re a long-time OnePlus user, you should definitely wait to see what the company has in store to offer.
