TL; DR
  • vivo has confirmed the X500’s camera hardware ahead of its September China launch.
  • The 50MP main camera uses the Sony LYT-828, a 1/1.28-inch sensor also used on the X300 Pro
  • The 64MP periscope uses Sony’s new LYT-610, a 1/2-inch sensor shared with the X500 Pro.
  • Both cameras support CIPA 5.5 stabilization, a 200mm Zeiss teleconverter, and 4K 120fps video.

vivo has confirmed the camera specifications for the standard vivo X500 ahead of its China launch this month. The phone gets the same main sensor as last year’s X300 Pro, while its telephoto hardware remains the same in sensor size compared with the previous two generations.

vivo X500 Camera Specifications

The main camera is a 50MP Sony LYT-828 1/1.28-inch sensor with CIPA 5.5 stabilization. It is the same sensor used on the X300 Pro, bringing that camera hardware to the standard X500 this year.

For telephoto shots, the X500 uses a 64MP Sony LYT-610 1/2-inch periscope sensor. It also gets CIPA 5.5 stabilization and supports a 200mm Zeiss teleconverter. The X500 Pro uses the same telephoto hardware. The X500 Pro Max sits at the top of the lineup with a 200MP 1/1.4-inch telephoto camera.

The X500’s telephoto uses a folded, L-shaped optical path. vivo has used a similar periscope design on the X200 Pro and X300 Pro for telemacro photography, with both phones capable of focusing from around 15cm. vivo has not confirmed the exact minimum focusing distance for the X500 yet.

Both the main and telephoto cameras support 4K 120fps slow-motion video. The camera module sits in the upper-left corner of the rear panel, as shown in vivo’s official teasers and several leaked images.
