September 2 turned out to be a bad day for the Indian smartphone market. Two different smartphone makers, popular ones no less, quietly decided to push through price hikes on their entry-level and mid-range devices. I’m talking about Nothing and Samsung.

Nothing’s Price Hike For Phone (4a) And (4a) Pro
Nothing’s most recent price hike hits the new Phone (4a) series and the more affordable alternative, the Phone (4b). The Phone (4a) now starts at ₹44,999, climbing ₹2,000 across its configurations. Meanwhile, the already expensive Phone (4a) Pro jumps by ₹5,000, which pushes its base variant to ₹54,999.
The Phone (4b)’s entry configuration rose from ₹34,999 to ₹39,999, a ₹5,000 jump on Nothing’s most affordable handset.

While Nothing’s price hikes focused on the mid-range segment, Samsung’s changes hit a different segment of the market.
Samsung Hits The Entry-Level Segment Harder
The Galaxy A17 with a bundled travel adapter saw the highest hike on this list. Its top 8GB+256GB configuration rose ₹14,500, from ₹23,999 to ₹38,499 (more than 50%). On the other hand, the Galaxy A27 climbed by up to ₹5,000, the Galaxy F17 rose by ₹3,500, and the entry-level A07 5G picked up a smaller ₹1,000-₹2,000 increase.

Why This Keeps Happening
This is reportedly the tenth time Samsung has revised smartphone pricing for this model in India, after recent revisions to the Galaxy F17 and the Galaxy M17. Like the other price hike, this one could also be attributed to the rising DRAM and NAND prices. The same reason holds true for Nothing.
I think what’s genuinely notable here isn’t either hike in isolation; it’s the frequency stacking up across the entire industry now. Smartphones are already jumping an entire segment with the revised pricing. If the memory crisis worsens further, we might as well bid farewell to entry-level handsets, especially those below ₹20,000 in India.
