TL; DR
  • The macOS Tahoe 26.7 RC, seeded to developers on August 17, is packed with codenames and feature flags for unreleased Apple hardware.
  • The most notable find: a demo video confirming camera-equipped AirPods (codename B790) built around Visual Intelligence, expected as soon as September.
  • The build also references the long-rumored smart home hub, a HomePod mini refresh, next-gen MacBook Pro and iMac models, an OLED iPad mini, and a second-gen Vision Pro.
  • iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18, iPhone Air 2, and the foldable iPhone Ultra all show up under their V-series codenames, alongside new Beats and AirPods Pro 4 references.
  • There are also signs of Apple Intelligence finally coming to China, an updated Apple TV remote, and over a dozen model numbers that don’t match any known product yet.

Apple’s beta program has a habit of giving away more than it means to, and the macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate is the latest example. MacRumors combed through the build seeded to developers on August 17 and found feature flags and codenames spanning almost every product category Apple ships, some corroborating existing rumors, others surfacing for the first time.

AirPods with cameras are real, and coming sooner than you think

The headline find here is a functioning demo video for AirPods with a built-in camera, carrying the codename B790. The clip shows the earbuds identifying a book held up to them and offering to save the information via Visual Intelligence, with Siri able to answer questions about whatever the wearer is looking at.

Worth noting: this isn’t the same project as the B798 camera AirPods Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported on for 2027. B790 appears to be a separate, further-along effort that could ship as soon as next month, potentially at the same September event where the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Ultra are expected to debut.

Smart Home Hardware

Beyond the AirPods, the bulk of the new references point toward Apple’s home hardware ambitions. There are fresh mentions of J490 and J491, tied to Siri setup flows, believed to correspond to the base and wall-mounted versions of Apple’s upcoming smart home hub.

Alongside that sits B525, a codename linked to a chip called “Argentium” that’s likely destined for a refreshed HomePod mini (the current model uses the B520 codename), plus a separate reference to J229, a multi-sensor accessory that surfaced in iOS 26 code late last year and could be a security camera or a companion device for the hub.

The code also lists four color names, Rose Pink, Silver, Space Gray, and Starlight, that aren’t yet tied to a specific product but read like they belong to whichever home accessory ships alongside the hub.

Macs and iPads

On the Mac and iPad side, the build references J804 (expected to be an M6-refreshed entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, succeeding the current J704), J833 and J834 (new iMac codenames), and a separate cluster of MacBook Pro identifiers, K114c, K114s, K116c, and K116s, that could point to Apple’s rumored higher-end OLED “MacBook Ultra” project.

There’s also confirmation of J510 and J511, which line up with a next-generation iPad mini expected to gain an OLED display and an A19 Pro chip. On headsets, N109 shows up again, a codename that’s been linked in earlier reporting to both a second-generation Vision Pro and a cheaper variant of it, though the latter was reportedly shelved last year.

The rest of the AirPods and audio lineup

The camera AirPods aren’t the only audio references in the build. There’s a mention of AirPodsPro1,4, which would line up with a fourth-generation AirPods Pro (the current AirPods Pro 3 carries the AirPodsPro1,3 identifier), plus a separate AirPod3,5 reference. Two more codenames, B518 and B522, don’t match any current product and are believed to belong to upcoming Beats headphones rather than AirPods.

iPhone codenames confirm the whole fall lineup

The build also carries the full set of V-series codenames that first turned up in iOS 27 code and were tied to specific iPhone models by Macworld. V63 and V64 correspond to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, both expected in September, while V68 lines up with the foldable iPhone Ultra, also expected at the same event. Further out, V62 is believed to be the iPhone Air 2 and V67 the standard iPhone 18, neither of which is expected before spring 2027.

Smaller Finds: Apple TV, and Apple Intelligence in China

A reference to ATVRemote1,5 suggests Apple is preparing an updated Apple TV remote, something that’s lined up with earlier rumors of a refreshed Apple TV box. Separately, the code contains several strings related to Writing Tools being made available in China for the first time, including content-safety messaging and references to temporary restrictions triggered by safety alerts, suggesting Apple Intelligence’s rollout there is still being gated carefully rather than flipped on all at once.

Beyond all of this, the release candidate contains a long tail of model numbers, several A34xx and A35xx identifiers, along with a batch of “Device1,82xx” references, that don’t correspond to any known or rumored Apple product yet. It’s not clear if these belong to entirely new hardware, internal test units, or accessories that haven’t leaked in any other form so far.

Bottom Line

None of these references constitute official confirmation from Apple. Codenames without a clear product match should be treated cautiously. However, the pattern is consistent with previous release candidates, where features and identifiers are compiled into the build ahead of public announcement and are not always fully pruned.

What stands out is the overall shape of the list. Apple appears to have a second product cycle planned after the iPhone 18 event, covering MacBook Pro, iMac, iPad mini and home hardware, likely for a separate fall event in October or November. The camera AirPods remain the most immediate possibility. With a working demo video already present in Apple’s own beta build, that project looks closer to launch than most other items on the list.
