TL;DR

  • According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone SE “early next year.”
  • In addition to a modern design, the iPhone SE may also support Apple Intelligence.
  • Besides the new iPhone SE, Apple could also launch new iPad Air models.

In 2024, iPhone SE is among the only smartphones that offers a compact form factor with flagship-grade hardware. While the craze for small-screen smartphones is going down, Apple’s SE series has held its ground pretty well, which is probably why the company hasn’t called quits on the fourth-generation iPhone SE. Most recently, a renowned journalist has claimed that the Cupertino giant will reveal the iPhone SE (4th Generation) in 2025.

iPhone SE (4th Generation) Expected Improvements

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone SE “early next year.” He also highlights how the next-generation iPhone SE will have a similar design to the iPhone 14 (currently the most affordable iPhone sold by Apple).

From what it sounds like, the iPhone SE could feature an edge-to-edge display (with a notch at the top) over the years-old form factor with thick bezels at the top and bottom. Of course, this would also mean that the upcoming iPhone SE won’t ship with a Touch ID sensor. Instead, the device could support Face ID.

In addition to a modern design, the iPhone SE may also support Apple Intelligence. Given that the suite of GenAI features is available on iPhones with the A17 Pro and the A18 series of chipsets, the iPhone SE would have to feature either of the three chipsets to support Apple Intelligence. It would be a welcome addition, though, as all three processors provide exceptional performance and power efficiency.

What Does “Early Next Year” Mean For the iPhone SE (4th Generation)?

While the new iPhone SE is said to debut “early next year,” Apple usually prefers March or April to release a new SE model. For instance, the current-generation iPhone SE debuted in March 2022. Even the second-generation iPhone SE came out in April 2020. Since the upcoming iPhone SE could come with loads of upgrades, the company might hold a virtual event to announce it.

Apple Could Also Launch Updated iPad Air

Besides the new iPhone SE, Apple could also launch new iPad Air models. While they will chip with certain “internal improvements,” that is the extent of information Gurman provided. Since Apple upgraded the iPad Air lineup with the M2 chipset and a bigger 13-inch version earlier this year, it is a bit difficult to speculate the improvements at this point.

With the new iPad Air, the company will launch a new Magic Keyboard for the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air models. The upgraded version would probably sport all the new features Apple introduced for the Magic Keyboard, including a dedicated row for function keys, a larger trackpad, new colors, and a premium build. For now, we’re awaiting confirmation on the October Apple event, where the company will unveil the M4-powered MacBook Pro models.
