TL; DR
  • Mark Gurman says Apple plans iOS 27 as a “muted” update, with the focus on performance, bug fixes, and small design refinements.
  • The main new feature still looks like the next Siri upgrade, with a more chatbot-style interface tied to Apple Intelligence (and Gemini integration).
  • Apple reportedly takes a “Snow Leopard-style” approach after iOS 26’s bigger changes.

Apple will likely treat iOS 27 as a cleanup year. In Bloomberg’s February 8, 2026 Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman says Apple plans iOS 27 as a “fairly muted affair” when it previews the update at WWDC 2026. He says Apple will focus more on performance improvements, bug fixing, and subtle design tweaks than on big new features.

Gurman compares the plan to macOS X Snow Leopard, where Apple prioritized stability and polish instead of pushing major additions. This comes after iOS 26 introduced larger changes, and iOS 27 now looks set to smooth out the rough edges that users still complain about (including UI and stability issues).

The biggest feature still looks like Siri. Gurman says Apple continues work on a more personalized assistant with a more conversational, chatbot-like interface. Reports also tie this Siri direction to Apple Intelligence upgrades and Gemini integration.

Apple will preview iOS 27 at WWDC 2026 (likely in June), with the public release expected in September alongside the next iPhone lineup.
