TL; DR
  • Ice Universe says there is no reliable evidence that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a 5,800 mAh battery.
  • The tipster specifically called out recent claims shared by “phonefuturist,” saying the source has a history of inaccurate leaks.
  • Ice says Samsung testing a battery technology does not mean it will appear in the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

A recent rumor claiming the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra could pack a 5,800 mAh battery has gained traction online, but well-known Samsung tipster Ice Universe says the claim shouldn’t be trusted.

In a post on X, Ice said there is currently no reliable information suggesting Samsung’s next flagship will use a 5,800mAh battery. The statement comes after several publications picked up a report from “phonefuturist,” which claimed Samsung SDI was developing a new battery capable of pushing the Galaxy S27 Ultra beyond 5,500 mAh.

Ice Universe Questions the Source

Ice directly criticized the source behind the rumor, saying it has a history of publishing inaccurate information. He also pointed to a similar situation last year, when the same source claimed the Galaxy S26 Ultra would ship with a 5,400 mAh battery. That never happened, with Samsung sticking to a 5,000 mAh cell.

According to Ice, there is no reason to treat the latest 5,800 mAh claim as credible.

Samsung Testing a Battery Doesn’t Confirm a Phone Spec

Ice also explained why the rumor doesn’t add up. Even if Samsung SDI is testing a new battery technology, that doesn’t automatically mean Samsung MX, the division that develops Galaxy smartphones, will use it in a commercial product.

He noted that flagship Galaxy phones typically source batteries from multiple suppliers. A technology being evaluated by one supplier still has to go through design validation, safety testing, cost evaluation, and supply chain approval before it can be used in a mass-produced device.

As always with early Galaxy S-series rumors, a clearer picture about the battery size is likely to emerge much closer to launch.
