TL; DR
- Ice Universe says the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a new 16MP square selfie camera.
- Both phones are also tipped to get 50MP telephoto and 50MP ultra-wide cameras.
- The new front camera could bring a wider field of view and improved image quality.
Samsung could finally be planning an upgrade for the front camera on its flagship phones. According to reliable tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a brand-new 16MP square selfie sensor, replacing the 12MP camera Samsung has used across several recent Galaxy S models.
The leak also mentions that both phones will pack 50MP telephoto and 50MP ultra-wide cameras. Earlier leaks suggested the Galaxy S27 Pro would get a 50MP 3.5X telephoto camera, while the Galaxy S27 Ultra could drop the 3X telephoto lens, and keep a single 5X telephoto camera.
Finally an upgraded selfie camera after 5 years

The square selfie sensor is particularly interesting. Apple adopted a similar design with the iPhone 17 series, using an 18MP 1/2.6-inch square sensor paired with an f/1.9 aperture and a 20mm autofocus lens. In comparison, the current Galaxy S26 series uses a 12MP 1/3.2-inch sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a 26mm autofocus lens. That’s quite literally an inferior setup in every aspect.

If Samsung follows an approach similar to Apple, the new 16MP square sensor could be paired with a wider field of view while also allowing for a brighter lens. That combination could improve selfies, group shots, and video calls, especially in lower lighting. A square sensor also gives the camera more flexibility when switching between different aspect ratios without sacrificing as much image quality.
The information originates from GalaxyClub and was shared by Ice Universe, both of whom have a solid track record with Samsung-related leaks. As always, these details are based on early information, and more about the Galaxy S27 series is expected to emerge over the coming months.
