Chinese Smartphone maker, Huawei has given a timeframe for its first ever 5G smartphone. Addressing the Global Analyst Summit 2018 in Shenzen, the firm announced that its first phone with support for next-generation network speeds will go official in the third quarter of 2019.

We don’t know much about the device, but it is said to use the company’s own 5G modem. To recall, Huawei already has a 5G chip – Balong 5G01 – capable of supporting 2.3Gbsps download speeds that it demonstrated at MWC 2018. However, it is too big to be used in mobile phones so the company has to make a chip suitable for handheld devices.

Given that Huawei has set Q3 of 2019 as the launch for the 5G-enabled phone, it wouldn’t be wrong to presume it to be Mate 30 (provided the Mate 20 is launched this year). Huawei is predicting that there will be 1.1 billion 5G connections by 2025, along with 200 million 5G-connected cars.

However, we don’t see why 5G should affect your buying decision for another two to three years.

Huawei’s AI Push

Apart from this, Huawei also gave a detailed overview of its plan for next year. The firm revealed that it will further push the AI on phones and will be counting on it to get an edge over the competition. They are working on AI-enabled camera backed by software that will improve the image processing in complex environments by 25-times and can recognize as many as 200 faces at a time.

Huawei wants to use AI on various fronts such as images, voice, text, videos and augmented reality for a better experience. Huawei devices that already support AI extensively are Mate 10, View 10 and recently announced P20 series.
