Xiaomi had a great start to the year and it is in no mood to relent its position. To stay ahead of the competition, Xiaomi is preparing to introduce a new Redmi S series in the Indian market. The first device to come out under Redmi S series reportedly will be the Xiaomi Redmi S2. As per XDA Developers, the Redmi S2 will include latest trends like dual cameras, 18:9 display, and Face Unlock.

Thanks to folks at XDA-Developers who managed to extract information related to the Redmi S2 from its firmware files. The Xiaomi Redmi S2 likely to come with an 18:9 display with 1440×720 pixels (HD+) resolution. The exact screen size, however, is still unknown. As per the firmware file, the Xiaomi Redmi S2 set to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, which Xiaomi has previously used in the Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 5, Mi A1, and Mi Max 2 smartphones. With slightly dated Snapdragon 625 chipset under the hood, Xiaomi will be looking to price it aggressively.

The Redmi S2 cheapest model will come with up to 16GB of onboard storage. Though the RAM configuration is still unknown, we expect the Redmi S2 to come with at least 2GB RAM with a possibility of 3GB+32GB variant as well.

The biggest talking point of the phone will be its cameras. The Redmi S2 reportedly flaunts a 12MP Sony IMX486 or 12MP OmniVision OV12A10 sensor at the rear and a 5MP Samsung S5K5E8 sensor on the front for selfies. As per XDA, the Redmi S2 optics will come with EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation), and a Portrait mode for blurred-background images.

The phone is likely to feature a 3080mAh battery and will be running on Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI ROM on debut. The phone will also support microSD card and will include face unlock feature.
