Google has officially announced its I/O 2025 event, scheduled for May 20th and 21st, 2025. At this annual conference, the company is anticipated to reveal information about various new products and services, including updates on Chrome, Google Cloud, Gemini, Android XR, Android 16, and more.

A key focus will be the introduction of a completely revamped design language for Android, aimed at transforming the user interface experience. Interestingly, just a few hours ago, Google inadvertently released a comprehensive blog post outlining the new design language for Android, ahead of its official presentation at I/O.

Google unintentionally released an extensive blog post detailing the M3 Expressive design language for Android. Although the post was removed shortly after publication, it was archived by the Wayback Machine and subsequently shared by 9to5Google.

The blog post affirms that the Material 3 Expressive design will prioritize the use of color, size, shape, motion, and containment to enhance product usability. Additionally, Google states that this new design approach will not only attract users to a product but will also emphasize usability, enabling users to easily identify actions on each screen and navigate more efficiently.

The forthcoming expressive design eliminates age-related delays in fixation times, enabling users over 45 to identify key interactive elements on the screen as quickly as their younger peers. Google asserts that this new design will also be user-friendly for individuals with diverse movement and visual capabilities.

Google has carried out 46 research sessions with input from more than 18,000 people across regions, and the focus was on-

Surveys and focus groups to assess emotional reactions
Usability tests for speed and ease of use
Eye tracking to observe where users focus
Experiments to gauge preferences and sentiment

The goal was to make a design system that turns out to be emotionally engaging and functionally intuitive.

This time ahead of I/O, Google has confirmed ‘The Android Show’ to talk about the updates coming to the Android OS. After this show, I/O will take place on 20^th and 21^st May at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.
