The successor to Xiaomi's Redmi 3s, the much awaited Redmi 4, is now official in India. The handset retails in three storage and RAM variants and the base model with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage has been priced at 6,999 INR. The Redmi 4 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM variants with 32GB and 64GB storage space, respectively, have been priced at 8,999 INR and 10,999 INR.
Compared to Redmi 3s prime, the upgrades in the Redmi 4 are only cosmetic. The corners are rounded, the back cover tapers at the far edges, the speaker has been shifted to the bottom, and there is 2.5D glass layered on the front. These are all design elements that it borrows from the Redmi Note 4.
The chipset receives a minor upgrade too. The Redmi 4 is now powered by 1.4GHz Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor (Instead of Snapdragon 430). The phone features the same 5-inch HDscreen and the same front (5MP) and back (13MP) cameras as in Redmi 3s/ 3s Prime.
The phone packs a powerful 4,100 mAh battery and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 8 out of the box. Users will also get an option to switch to Android Nougat based Preview build of MIUI8 (which isn't as stable). Bearing a Hybrid SIM slot, the Redmi 4 makes it a tad difficult to use both the SIMs and a microSD card simultaneously.
