China-based Tech giant Xiaomi which has completed 13 years in 2023 is up for a major software change soon. Earlier this month there were rumors about Xiaomi giving up MIUI and replacing it with a new OS. Now the rumors have been confirmed to be true as the company has announced Hyper OS to take the place of MIUI. The Xiaomi Hyper OS that will retire the 13-year-old MIUI will be used in Xiaomi’s smartphones and tablets.

CEO Confirms new OS

Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi confirmed the development via his Twitter/X account. He wrote- “Today marks a historic moment. After years of collective work, our new operating system, Xiaomi Hyper OS is set to make its official debut on Xiaomi 14 Series.”

The CEO also informed that the HyperOS will gradually replace the MIUI in older tablets and phones running it.

Hyper OS Roll-Out Details

Although it has been confirmed that the Xiaomi 14 Series will be the first to run Hyper OS there’s no word on whether the new OS will be available on Xiaomi phones globally or not. When a user on X asked the same question to Lei Jun, he just replied with a ‘Stay Tuned’ followed by a smiling face with glasses emoji. This seems to hint that all Xiaomi smartphones internationally will be getting HyperOS and MIUI will no longer be a thing.

About HyperOS

There have been rumors of MiOS and the company registered for Xiaomi Pengpai and Xiaomi Hyper trademarks recently. Although the English text says HyperOS, Chinese text translates to ‘PaperOS’.

It is not clear if Xiaomi is moving to an Android version-based OS like ColorOS, OneUI, or FunTouchOS every year keeping the latest Android version as its base. Currently, there is hardly any information about how HyperOS is different from MIUI or its new features. Since it will be launched with the Xiaomi 14 Series, we will surely know more about it in November, which is when the series is expected to go official. Xiaomi 14 is also one of the first smartphones to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
