2017 has been a phenomenal year for smartphones. Now that the year 2017 has passed, and we are way into 2018, let’s look at what all it has for our handsets. Although it is too early to make a call on a field which is anything but unpredictable, yet there are a couple of things, we are sure to follow the next year’s flagship smartphones. In 2018, all top-tier flagship phones will have the brain of Qualcomm’s newest processor, Snapdragon 845.
Snapdragon 845 vs Snapdragon 835: What has changed?
The Snapdragon 845 is the Android industry’s most advanced processor, which succeeds this year 835 processor. Some major updates include:
- According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 845 is 25% faster than its predecessor Snapdragon 835.
- The new chipset will improve the battery life by up to 30%.
- Snapdragon 845 is said to have a separate ‘Secure Processing Unit’ that will store biometrics scans in order to make devices more secure.
- The new Snapdragon 845 packs Kryo 385 Gold cores clocked at 2.8 GHz and four Kyro 385 Silver cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The processor is integrated with Adreno 640 GPU.
- The 845 chipset will support up to 4K Ultra HD video capture @ 60fps.
5 Smartphones that will rock Snapdragon 845 in 2018
1. Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus
Samsung next-gen Galaxy S9 and S9+ became the first smartphone to rock Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset. However, the chipset is only meant for phones that will be shipped in the US market. Other markets such as India will see the inclusion of comparable Exynos 9810 powering the Galaxy S9 phones.
Apart from the latest chipset, the Galaxy S9 duo comes with incremental improvements over previous Galaxy series devices. Both devices are touted to have improved camera performance, AR Emojis support and stereo speakers.

2. Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact
Sony was next to join the list of rocking its smartphone with flagship chipset. The firm unleashed its Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact both coming with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, under its hood.
That’s not all, both Xperia devices became the first Sony handset to boast 18:9 display and a glass sandwiched design. Sony also bundled both the devices with hefty camera features and a 3180mAh and 2870mAh battery, accordingly.

3. Asus Zenfone 5Z
At MWC 2018, Asus also unveiled its Zenfone 5Z, which is powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC. Irrespective of the latest chipset, the biggest talking point of the phone is its fascia. The Asus Zenfone 5Z has an iPhone-X like display with 19:9 screen aspect ratio and a notch on top.
Other features of the phone include dual-rear camera setup, dual speakers with dual smart amplifiers, Android Oreo, facial as well as fingerprint unlock, and AI-powered fast charging for 3300mAh battery. The Asus Zenfone 5S price has not been revealed, as of now, but the device will be for sale in India from June 2018.

4. Xiaomi Mi 7 and Mi Mix 2S
Next in line for the latest processor is Xiaomi’s flagship devices Mi 7 and Mi Mix 2S. The Chinese smartphone maker made the announcement from the sets of Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 launch event. Both devices are not officially out yet, but incessant rumors have revealed the phones in full glory.
Both Mi 7 and Mi Mix 2S are expected to come with 6-inch FHD+ display with 18:9 screen aspect ratio. There is no official information about the launch date of Mi 7, but we have a date for the launch of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S – March 27.
5. OnePlus 6/6T
OnePlus had a blockbuster year. Their 2017 flagship phones, 5 and 5T, were a killer. One of the many reasons for that was the use of Snapdragon 835, which was the best available option around. OnePlus would obviously stick to the tradition for their 2018 flagship killer, dubbed as ‘OnePlus 6‘.
Talking about OnePlus 6, the handset is expected to feature an iPhone X like QHD+ display with a notch on top. The phone will improve on camera front with OIS and 4K recording at 60fps and comes running on Android Oreo out of the box with company’s custom skin applied on top.
6. LG Upcoming Flagship
LG’s upcoming flagship phone will also rock Snapdragon 845 chipset and it is going to be dubbed as either LG G7 Neo or Judy. According to a concept image, LG’s new device is reprted to have a notch on its display, just like the iPhone X.
As far as specifications and features are concerned, the upcoming LG phone will come an 18:9 OLED display, a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB RAM, and a dual camera setup on the back. The phone is reported to come with an advanced iris scanner for facial recognition.

Best phones with Snapdragon 845 to launch in 2018
The Snapdragon 845 will certainly be the first choice for flagship phones next year. The next generation flagships like ZTE Nubia Z18, LG V40, Pixel 3 devices, Note 9, and several others are likely to employ it.
