Qualcomm announced its mid-year chip upgrade with the Snapdragon 865 Plus. The new chip brings forth a higher clock speed at 3.1GHz frequency. Close to the announcement of the chipset, Asus announced the ROG Phone 3 as the first phone to run on the 865+. Not just that, even Lenovo declared its Legion Phone Duel to feature the same.

We have seen several phones since then. Needless to say, we will be seeing a lot more summer and fall releases bearing the 865 Plus. So, before we have a look at the phones, let’s see what’s new and improved in the chipset over its predecessor.

Snapdragon 865 Plus: What’s new?

Best Snapdragon 865 Plus Phones

The major difference is in the CPU and GPU front with a promised 10% performance improvement. Notably, the Snapdragon 865+ happens to be the first chip to cross the 3GHz frequency threshold. This falls in line with what ARM has been claiming ever since its Cortex A75 announcement.

It must also be noted that power consumption in Snapdragon 865+ is significantly more than that of Snapdragon 865, and that’s perhaps why manufacturers don’t seem particularly keen on adopting it.

Best phones with Snapdragon 865 Plus

As for the first adopters, just like the previous year, Asus has come forward with the confirmation that its ROG Phone 3 will be the first Snapdragon 865+ phone. Another taker is expected to be Lenovo Legion, also a gaming smartphone. Here are the currently announced phones with 865 Plus:

1. Asus ROG Phone 3

ROG Phone 3 (review) is the first phone to launch with Snapdragon 865 Plus. Being a gaming phone, it maxes out on hardware specs. This includes Adreno 650 GPU, up to 16GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and a 6000mAh battery inside. The camera system comprises of 64MP primary unit, 13MP ultrawide, and 5MP macro by the back, while to the front, you have a 24MP snapper.

Also since ROG Phone 3 is a gaming machine, you get some fancy and some functional features with it.

2. Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra

Samsung Note lineup is known to be spec monsters. This year’s models, ie Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra aren’t any different. They both come helming the latest Snapdragon 865 Plus. But when it comes to the rest of the specs, there are some significant changes between the two phones.

If you want the best, go with the Ultra, which true to name, boasts plenty of everything, save for a headphone jack. You get with it a 120Hz refresh rate, QHD+ resolution, sAMOLED, Gorilla Glass Victus protection, 108MP main cam, 50X zoom, 25W fast charging, up to 12GB RAM, 512GB internal storage, 1TB micro-SD expansion and more.

3. Lenovo Legion Phone Duel

Lenovo Legion

On the heels of Asus, Lenovo announced that its gaming flagship will be running on Snapdragon 865 Plus. And it launched recently in China, heralding the powerful processor and other specs, expected out of its kind.

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel (a lengthy name indeed!) features a 144Hz AMOLED screen, up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage, 64MP + 16MP (ultrawide) rear cameras, 5G, side-popping 20MP selfie snapper, 5000mAh battery, and a fast 90W charger.

Now, these are not technically phones. Still, in their own right, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S7 series might be the best tablet you can buy from the Android world. They boast the top-shelf specs including the 865+ chip.

Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ are here with 11-inch (2,560×1,600 pixels) LCD and 12.4 inches (2,800×1,752 pixels) OLED displays respectively along with the 120Hz refresh rate. They feature a book cover keyboard with trackpad, quadruple speakers (also tuned by AKG), Dolby Atmos surround sound, Android 10, and dual rear cameras.

6. iQOO 5 Pro (Expected)

Back in August 2020, iQOO announced its iQOO 5 Pro in China. This Snapdragon 865+ backed phone comes with a 120W fast charging support which is fastest in a smartphone till date.

The iQoo 5 Pro packs a 6.56-inch hole-punch display with 120Hz refresh rate. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC is paired with fast LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. It comes with a 50-megapixel Samsung GN1 primary camera coupled with 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 13-megapixel telephoto sensor. It is likely to debut in India in october or November 2020.

That’s all for now. More phones Sanpdragon 865 Plus phones are rumored to be in the pipeline. We will be surely hearing from more brands in the coming times. If and when they release, the new contenders will find their spot here on this list.
