Tata Motors held its Investor Day Meet on June 23, 2026 to lay out the brand’s roadmap for the rest of the decade. Here, Tata Motors will expand its passenger vehicle line-up to 25 models by FY31. As part of this plan, the carmaker confirmed it will introduce six new internal combustion engine (ICE) nameplates and four new EV cars over the coming years, on top of the already scheduled refresh and update to its existing range.

A Bigger, More Balanced Portfolio

Once this expansion is complete, Tata’s portfolio will comprise 15 internal combustion engine models and 10 electric vehicles. That’s a significant jump from where the company stands today, with nine ICE models and six EVs currently on sale. Beyond the new nameplates themselves, Tata also confirmed there will be over 30 lifecycle updates, facelifts, and new variants rolled out across its existing models during this period — meaning the pace of updates across the showroom is set to pick up considerably, not just at the top end with all-new launches.

Tata has already begun this cycle with the recently launched Tiago and Tiago EV facelifts, giving an early sense of the kind of refresh activity buyers can expect across the rest of the line-up in the coming months.

What’s Coming on the EV Side

Of the four new EV nameplates confirmed, two are already known: the Sierra EV, set to make its official debut on June 30, and the Avinya, which is expected to become Tata’s premium EV sub-brand going forward. The Avinya name isn’t new to followers of Tata’s EV roadmap — an evolved version of the Avinya X concept was already showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, giving an early preview of the design direction Tata is exploring for its more premium electric offerings.

The identity of the remaining two EVs hasn’t been officially confirmed, but a Safari EV and an electric MPV are seen as likely candidates. An electric MPV in particular would mark Tata’s first entry into that body style within the EV space, putting it in direct contention with rivals like the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the VinFast VF MPV 7 — both of which currently operate in a segment that doesn’t yet have a Tata electric option.

Scaling Up Production To Match Ambition

A line-up expansion of this scale needs production capacity to match, and Tata addressed that directly. The company plans to nearly double its annual production capacity, scaling up from around 9 lakh units currently to 1.3 million units over the next two to three years.

This expansion will be driven by new manufacturing facilities, along with upgrades to existing production units at Tata’s plants in Pune, Sanand, Ranjangaon, and Panapakkam. Spreading the capacity increase across multiple existing sites rather than relying on a single new mega-facility suggests a more phased, lower-risk approach to scaling up.

Where Tata Stands Today

On the ICE side, Tata’s current portfolio spans nine models, ranging from the Tiago, priced between ₹4.70 lakh and ₹8.55 lakh, up to the three-row Safari, which tops out at ₹26.40 lakh. In between sit the Tigor, Altroz, Punch, Nexon, Curvv, Sierra, and Harrier — a spread that covers hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs of varying sizes.

On the electric side, Tata currently holds a leadership position in India with six EV models across different body styles, from the Tiago EV at the entry point (₹6.99 lakh–₹9.99 lakh) up to the Harrier EV at the top of the range (₹21.49 lakh–₹30.23 lakh), with the Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV filling out the rest of the line-up.

The Bigger Picture

Tata’s plan signals an intent to broaden its play across price segments rather than concentrate purely on the mass market, where it has traditionally been strongest. The introduction of the Avinya sub-brand, in particular, points toward an ambition to compete in more premium territory — a space Tata hasn’t historically had much presence in in either its ICE or EV line-ups.

With the Sierra EV’s debut just days away and a steady stream of facelifts and new nameplates expected to follow through to FY31, Tata appears to be positioning itself for a sustained period of expansion across both its EV leadership and its broader passenger vehicle business.
