Ever since Qualcomm introduced Cortex-A76 based custom cores in its mid-tier Snapdragon 675, we were expecting a solid upgrade to the more premium 700-series. That’s because the new Kyro 460 cores, the Snapdragon 675 was almost at par with the higher tier Snapdragon 710. The recently launched Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G once again restores the natural order and relevance of Qualcomm’s nomenclature.

So, which one is better? How much more powerful is Snapdragon 730 as compared to Snapdragon 730 or Snapdragon 710? To answer all such questions, let’s stack these popular Snapdragon 700-series chipsets against each other.

Snapdragon 730G VS Snapdragon 730

Before we proceed into elaborating how much of an improvement Snapdragon 730 and 730G are over last generation Snapdragon 710, let’s elaborate how the Snapdragon 730G is different from Snapdragon 730.

As you can notice almost all the specs are similar on the two variants, but the 730G integrates Qualcomm’s ‘Snapdragon Elite Gaming‘ that debuted with the high-end Snapdragon 855.

As Qualcomm defines it, “Snapdragon Elite Gaming is a jam-packed arsenal of hardware and software features, and optimizations focused on gaming. Devices with chipsets that have Snapdragon Elite Gaming support cinema-quality graphics, powerful audio, smooth play, and near-instant responses”

The suite includes features like Vulkan 1.1 Graphics driver for enhanced game graphics, True HDR display, Game Wireless Audio Qualcomm aptX Adaptive for immersive audio, game fast loader, Jank reducer, latency manager that auto adjust device setting to improve gaming experience, anti-cheat extensions to prohibit your hacker friends from taking unfair advantage, game console mode, and more.

So, basically, the Snapdragon 730G is much better optimized for gaming (If you haven’t already figured, G is for gaming).

But there are some other minor differences too. For instance, the Snapdragon 730G can support QHD+ display resolution (on device), but the Snapdragon 730 maxes at Full HD+. This shouldn’t make a world of difference as we don’t expect Snapdragon 730 or 730G phones to go beyond Full HD+ anyways.

How does Snapdragon 730G or Snapdragon 730 Compare with Snapdragon 710?

  • The Snapdragon 730 and 730G use Cortex A76 based Kryo 460 cores and are manufactured on Samsung’s latest 8nm process node. Compared to SD 710, this renders 35% leap in performance. The smaller process should also make them significantly more power efficient.
  • AnTuTu score of Snapdragon 730G and Snapdragon 730 published by benchmarking platform itself confirm these performance improvement stats.

SD660 66695 30902 39367 7778 144742
  • Graphics performance from Adreno 618 GPU on Snapdragon 730G/ 730  will be 25 percent faster as compared to Adreno 616 on Snapdragon 710.
  • Spectra 350 ISP can now handle higher resolution dual and single cameras with Multi Frame Noise Reduction (MFNR) and Zero Shutter Lag (ZSL). Single camera resolution support without ZSL remain the same.
  • Additionally, Snapdragon 730G and Snapdragon 730 phones will support for HD Slo motions at 960fps and 4K HDR video portrait mode
  • Unlike Snapdragon 710, Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G are Wi-Fi 6 ready. Since we already have Wi-Fi 6 routers in the market, this could be beneficial.
  • The SD 730G and SD 730 also offer 2X faster AI processing.
  • Just as Snapdragon 855, the Snapdragon 730G and Snapdragon 730 can detect 2 Wake Words simultaneously.

Phones With Snapdragon 730G and Snapdragon 730

It will still take some time before Snapdragon 730G becomes more common, but we already have a phone that’s powered by Snapdragon 730G.

Samsung Galaxy A80 of the rotating slider camera fame is powered by this latest mid-range chip and is expected to reach India very soon.
