What Does “MONT FLEX” Mean?
The “FLEX” in the stands for flexible, which is the core quality of a foldable phone’s screen. On the other hand, “MONT” is inspired by the French word mont, which means mountain. Although Samsung says that the word “symbolizes the pinnacle of innovation in foldable displays,” it might be a try to correlate the durability of the displays with the strength and permanence of mountains.
However, “MONT” isn’t just a word; it’s an acronym.
- M: mechanical durability
- O: opti-mechanically flat (with minimal crease)
- N: narrow bezels
- T: thin and lightweight
In my opinion, the foldable screen on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (review) seems to fulfill this criterion, but Samsung hasn’t associated its latest book-style foldable with the MONT FLEX branding yet (not even once).

Hence, it’s difficult to say whether the company is rebranding the existing foldable OLED screen from Samsung Display or creating a new benchmark for an upcoming product, perhaps the one that the company uses in the Fold 8?
Galaxy Z Fold 7 Is Tested To Survive 500,000 Folds
In the official press release that announces the arrival of the MONT FLEX brand, Samsung briefly mentions launching a foldable panel “with a newly developed shock-resistant structure that passed the 500,000-fold durability test,” likely referring to the newly-launched Fold 7.
“We will continue pushing the boundaries to deliver even more refined foldable products that exceed market expectations,” writes Samsung, indicating that it is talking about a new, improved foldable screen for future products (including the Fold 8 and Flip 8).
Apple Might Become Samsung’s Biggest MONT FLEX Customer

A report from early July already hinted at how Samsung is gearing up to produce foldable OLED panels for Apple’s first foldable, which could come out with the iPhone 18 series in 2026. The pioneer in foldable smartphones is reportedly setting up a dedicated assembly line for Apple at the A3 Plan in South Korea.
