TL; DR
  • Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple’s first foldable iPhone will start at $2,000 for the 256GB model.
  • The 2TB variant could reach around $3,000.
  • The foldable is expected to use a short-and-wide design, A20 Pro chip, C2 modem, and dual 48MP rear cameras.
  • Apple could start selling it as early as October.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone could be one of the company’s most expensive products yet. Ahead of tonight’s 10:30 p.m. IST launch event, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the iPhone Duo will start at $2,000 for the 256GB model, with the 2TB variant reaching around $3,000.

That would put Apple’s foldable well above the price of most competing foldables, making the $2,000 starting price one of the biggest talking points around the phone.

iPhone Duo Price and Storage

Gurman reports that the base model will come with 256GB of storage and cost $2,000 in the US. Apple could charge close to $3,000 for the highest-storage configuration, which is 2TB.

Part of the pricing pressure reportedly comes from a memory shortage that pushed Apple’s component costs beyond its original targets. Apple is said to be absorbing some of those additional costs to keep the entry price at the $2,000 mark, while higher-storage models could carry much steeper prices.

In India, a direct conversion of $2,000 would put the phone at roughly ₹1,70,000, although the actual Indian price is expected to be higher after taxes and other costs (somewhere around ₹2,40,000).

What Else to Expect

The iPhone Duo is expected to use a short-and-wide folding design, similar to the approach Samsung has taken with the Galaxy Z Fold8. It will support side-by-side apps and an iPad-style split-screen interface.

Under the hood, Apple is reportedly using the A20 Pro chip alongside its second-generation in-house C2 modem.

The camera setup is expected to include dual 48MP rear cameras and a 12MP front camera designed primarily for video calls. Apple is also said to be adding a magnetic hinge and Apple Pencil support.

The phone could launch in white and dark blue, with sales beginning as early as October. Apple will reveal the final pricing and specifications tonight at its launch event.
