TL; DR
- Samsung is reportedly testing the Galaxy S27 and S27+ with a 50MP Sony main camera sensor.
- The Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra will use Sony’s IMX855 1/2.55-inch sensor for their 50MP ultrawide cameras.
- Both the S27 Pro and Ultra are tipped to feature a new 16MP autofocus selfie camera, with OIS potentially coming to the Pro’s front shooter for the first time.
A hot minute after the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s launch, the rumor mill has turned its attention to the Galaxy S27 series. The early leaks, I’d say, are painting a surprisingly unconventional picture of what’s coming to the company’s next flagship lineup.

Samsung’s S27 And S27+ Could Switch From ISOCELL To Sony Sensors
Samsung is reportedly testing the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+, the non-Ultra versions of the upcoming lineup, with a 50MP primary camera using a Sony sensor. If true, this could be a notable departure from Samsung’s ISOCELL sensors, which, for those catching up, have been used on the Galaxy S-series for over a decade.
A follow-up report confirms that the 50MP ultrawide camera on the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra could use Sony’s IMX855, a 1/2.55-inch sensor. Both the Pro and Ultra are also said to share one telephoto camera. The Ultra could still get a second, giving it a dual-zoom setup similar to its predecessors.

Now, I’d say that testing a sensor this early in development doesn’t confirm it will reach mass production. However, the fact that Samsung is evaluating a Sony unit at all signals a willingness to look outside its own supply chain, especially if it benefits the camera quality.
| Model | Main Camera | Ultrawide | Telephoto | Selfie |
| Galaxy S27 | 50MP, Sony sensor (testing) | 12MP (same as S26) | — | Under-display (rumored) |
| Galaxy S27+ | 50MP, Sony sensor (testing) | 12MP (same as S26) | — | Under-display (rumored) |
| Galaxy S27 Pro | To be confirmed | 50MP, Sony IMX855 | 1x zoom camera | 16MP with AF, possibly OIS |
| Galaxy S27 Ultra | To be confirmed | 50MP, Sony IMX855 | 2x zoom cameras | 16MP with AF, possibly OIS |

Buyers Could Get A New Selfie Shooter With OIS
The S27 Pro and S27 Ultra will also both feature a 16MP autofocus selfie camera, with at least the Pro model potentially getting OIS on the front shooter. If this happens, it will be the first for a Samsung flagship selfie camera. Beyond that, both the S27 and S27+ are expected to carry over the same 12MP ultrawide used on the Galaxy S26 and S26+.

From the early leaks, I can figure out a pattern: the S27 Pro could turn out to be a smaller and more affordable version of the S27 Ultra. The camera leaks support this theory. However, it’s too early to comment on the development cycle, as the lineup won’t break cover until January or February 2027.
