TL; DR
- Oppo teased the Reno 17’s design, adding a glowing cat-like element to the back.
- The Reno 17 series launches in China on November 9, 2026; pre-orders are open there.
- Price and India availability are unannounced; specs are leaks, and sources disagree.
Every so often, a smartphone maker decides a spec sheet alone isn’t enough and gives its next launch some extraordinary personality. In fact, a popular brand already sells phones because of its unique looks and styling. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo could do something similar with its upcoming Reno 17 series.
Oppo has published a teaser of its upcoming Reno 17 series, and it showcases a phone with a glowing cat symbol on the back. That’s right. It features a glowing, cat-shaped cutout on the back panel that lights up in the dark, and I can already see my cat-owning friends going crazy for it.

What Does the Oppo Reno 17 Teaser Reveal?
Oppo has teased the Reno 17 in a video posted on Weibo. It’s not exactly clear, but the phone seems to have a glowing cat-like animation on the back panel. Like the glowing Apple logo at the back of the new touchscreen MacBook Pro, this is a glowing cat-shaped cutout toward the center of the back panel.
What I’m skeptical about, however, is that the animation somehow starts floating over the phone in a few seconds, so it’s not exactly clear what this is. Everything else, including the otherwise flat rear panel, a square camera island in the top-left corner with three cameras, and a metallic mid-frame in silver, looks quite normal.

Oppo hasn’t confirmed whether the glowing-cat treatment applies to the vanilla Reno 17 and the Reno 17 Pro, so I wouldn’t assume it does.
On timing, the Reno 17 series launches in China on November 9, 2026, alongside the Oppo Pad Air 6 tablet and Watch 5 smartwatch. Pre-orders are open on Oppo’s China store, but there is no price yet, and no India confirmation either.
