OPPO has started teasing ColorOS 17 ahead of its expected September launch, giving us the first official look at some of the changes coming to the software. ColorOS Design Director Chen Xi shared three short demos on Weibo, showing the new navigation design and updated animations.
Most of what’s shown has already appeared in closed beta leaks over the past few weeks, so the teasers mainly confirm what testers have been seeing.
ColorOS 17 Gets a New Floating Navigation Bar
One of the main changes is a new floating navigation bar that OPPO is calling a “floating island.” It is being used across more built-in apps, including areas such as Files, Photos, Phone Manager, Compass, Notes, Documents, and more.
The bar can be swiped left or right to move between sections. The animation also has more movement than before, with the interface stretching and bouncing as you interact with it.
OPPO calls this behavior “flexible feedback,” and it looks like one of the main visual changes in ColorOS 17. The design also has a transparent look that fits with the broader direction OPPO has been taking with the software.
Fluid Fusion Design
ColorOS 17 also continues the fluid animation style introduced with ColorOS 16. Chen Xi describes it as “fluid fusion,” with the same style now being used across more parts of the interface.
The lock screen island, side-swipe notification panel, app search, and floating navigation all use these animations. Closed beta builds have shown similar behavior in other areas too.
For example, swiping a notification to the right can reveal the settings and delete buttons one after another. Searching triggers an expanding and contracting animation, while system buttons and menus stretch as you move between options.
There is also progressive blur and Contour Glow across several parts of the interface in leaked builds, including the Control Center and Software Update screen. OPPO has yet to officially confirm these specific changes.
More ColorOS 17 Features Are Still Unconfirmed
The official teasers only cover a small part of ColorOS 17. Closed beta leaks have already shown several other changes, including a redesigned Control Center with circular controls, an updated Phone app and dialer, new lock screen clock styles, and a full-screen flashlight interface. ColorOS 17 Beta and Rollout
ColorOS 17 entered closed beta on August 6, with applications limited to a small number of testers per device. Builds have since appeared on the Find X9 Pro series and selected OnePlus and realme devices.
In India, the current beta covers the Find X9 Pro, Reno 15 Pro, Reno 15 Pro Mini, OnePlus 15, OnePlus 15R, and realme GT 8 Pro.
OPPO is expected to formally introduce ColorOS 17 in China alongside the Find X10 series in September, with the Find X10 tipped to be the first phone to ship with the software.
A wider rollout is expected to continue through October and the rest of Q4 2026, with some older devices potentially receiving the update in early 2027. And yes, OnePlus and realme devices will also receive the ColorOS 17 update.
The first official teasers give us a better idea of what OPPO is doing with ColorOS 17, while several of the larger changes are still waiting for official confirmation. More details should surface as we get closer to the September launch.
