OnePlus N6x Teased in India, and Here’s What to Expect from the Second Phone in this Budget Experiment

TL; DR
  • OnePlus has teased the OnePlus N6x in India through an Amazon microsite, making it the second device in the new budget-focused N series.
  • Official details remain under wraps, though tipster Yogesh Brar says the phone will arrive with “familiar” specifications.
  • The N6x is expected to retain the series’ focus on large batteries and affordable pricing, with possible changes to the chipset and display.

OnePlus has barely let the N6 breathe before teasing its follow-up. A dedicated microsite for the OnePlus N6x has gone live in India, confirming that this will be the second phone in the company’s new entry-level N series. It’s a fast follow-up, and there’s a lot to unpack about what this phone might actually bring to the table.

For context, if you missed it: the OnePlus N6 (review) launched barely two weeks ago, on June 30, as the first phone in this new lineup that sits below the Nord series. It came in at ₹22,999 for the base 4GB/128GB variant, packing a 6.75-inch 720p LCD with 120Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 6360 Apex chipset, an 8,000 mAh battery with 45W charging, and a single 50MP f/1.8 rear camera with no ultra-wide lens.

Now, onto the N6x. Here’s what we actually know, and it’s not much:

  • A dedicated Amazon India microsite is live, confirming the phone will be sold there, same as the N6
  • OnePlus hasn’t revealed specs, design, pricing, or even a launch date yet
  • Tipster Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh) says the phone will launch with “familiar” specifications, whatever that ends up meaning in practice

It could mean the N6x borrows heavily from the N6’s spec sheet with minor tweaks, essentially a variant. Or it could mean OnePlus is leaning on components already used elsewhere in its lineup (realme’s parts bin, given the shared OPPO ownership, wouldn’t be a shock at this price point).

What to Expect from the OnePlus N6x

What I’d actually expect from the N6x, given it’s positioned below the N6:

  • A further-downgraded chipset, likely still MediaTek, but a step below the Dimensity 6360 Apex
  • A smaller battery or slower charging, since the N6 already leaned on 8,000 mAh/45W as its main hook, and there’s not much room to cut there without losing the one thing that made the N6 sell
  • The same 720p LCD panel, with possibly a lower refresh rate, to hit a lower price point
  • The same single 50MP camera, no ultra-wide, since that was already the corner cut on the N6
