TL; DR
  • The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 was launched recently with upgrades to the CPU and GPU performance plus better efficiency.
  • realme P3, HONOR X9C, and OPPO F29 series are expected to be the first phones featuring the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4.

Qualcomm recently announced the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, which brings some marginal improvements over the 6 Gen 3. Qualcomm is focusing on better efficiency, improved AI, and stronger gaming performance, all packed into a 4 nm chipset. In this piece, we’ll see the first smartphones to be powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 Quick Overview

Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 specs

But before we talk about the phones, let’s get into what the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 actually brings. It’s built on TSMC’s 4 nm process, and a Kryo CPU with 1 performance core clocked at up to 2.3 GHz, 3 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz, and the four efficiency cores run at 1.8 GHz.

Technically, this is a downgrade when compared to the 6 Gen 3, which had four performance cores clocked at 2.4 GHz. Still, Qualcomm claims 11% better CPU performance, 29% better GPU performance, and 12% better efficiency overall. The math doesn’t make sense here so take these numbers with a pinch of salt.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 Phones

Here is a list of phones that will feature the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset:

1. realme P3

realme P3 Pro

The realme P3 recently popped up on Geekbench, and its core structure matches the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, making it probably one of the first phones to feature the chipset. realme is also one of the partners, so this makes sense.

2. HONOR

Honor-X9b

HONOR has also partnered with Qualcomm, so we’ll be seeing this chipset in their upcoming phones. HONOR could bring it to one of its budget smartphones, succeeding the HONOR X9B, which featured the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC.

3. OPPO F29 Series

OPPO F27

OPPO is also one of the partners, and you can expect the upcoming OPPO F29 series to use the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 SoC.

Final Thoughts

So, that’s the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 and the first wave of phones set to feature it. While the chipset doesn’t exactly scream “upgrade” over the 6 Gen 3, it’s still bringing better efficiency, AI smarts, and a noticeable GPU boost.

realme, HONOR, and OPPO are already lining up their devices, so we won’t have to wait long to see how it actually performs. Whether it’s worth the hype or just another marginal refresh, we’ll find out soon enough.
