LG has officially partnered with Infineon Technologies AG to introduce Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology to the LG G8ThinQ’s selfie snapper. The ToF sensor would facilitate better bokeh effect in your portrait photos. Moreover, it improves the scope for 3D applications using the camera. It works by calculating an object’s distance from the camera lens by capturing infrared light as it is reflected off the subject.

Other interesting application of this cutting edge tech would be faster Face Unlock. This is all thanks to the reduced impact of light from outside sources, which enhances the facial recognition.

The famed Animoji feature in iPhones works on the TOF principle. So, you could expect LG to come up with its own rendition as event its homeland rival, Samsung also has one to boast.

LG would be lifting the veil on February 24th, 2019.
