Say hello to the new Lamborghini Urus SE plug-in hybrid – it’s the strongest version of the SUV yet! This beast will make its debut at Auto China Beijing 2024. Compared to the Urus S and Performante, it has some cool design updates. And guess what? Underneath, it packs a twin-turbo V8 engine, an electric motor, and a battery pack. This combo gives it a big boost in power and torque.
Lamborghini Urus SE Design
Starting with the front, the Urus SE showcases slimmer headlamps with updated C-shaped daytime running lamps. Changes to the bumper include tweaks to the air vents. A notable alteration is the redesigned bonnet, which now extends down to the grille, eliminating the bonnet vents found in the Urus S. Along the sides, there are minimal changes apart from the introduction of new alloy wheels.
Now, let’s talk about the back of the Urus SE. It’s undergone a noticeable makeover with brand-new bumpers and tailgates. The sharp lines have been smoothed out, giving it a sleeker appearance. There’s a new vent-like feature that stretches across the width of the vehicle under the built-in spoiler lip. While the tail-lights keep the Y-shaped design from the Urus S, they’ve also been updated for a fresh look.
If you look inside the Urus SE, there’s a fresh look. The center console has a sleek strip of leather or alcantara running below the main touchscreen, prompting a rearrangement of buttons. More importantly, the lower touchscreen for climate control has been shifted downwards on the console. Furthermore, the company has also upgraded the infotainment panel, boasting a bigger 12.3-inch display.
Engine Powertrain
The big news here is the engine upgrade. Now, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood pumps out 612 bhp and 800 Nm of torque. That’s a bit less powerful than the Urus S, which had 657 bhp and 850 Nm. But here’s the twist: there’s an electric motor built into the 8-speed automatic gearbox, adding an extra 189 bhp and 483 Nm. Altogether, the Urus SE boasts a whopping 789 bhp and 950 Nm. Plus, it’s got a plug-in hybrid system with a 25.9 kWh battery under the boot floor, giving it an impressive all-electric range of 60 km.
According to Lamborghini, the Urus SE sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.4 seconds, making it 0.1 seconds faster than the Urus S, though slightly behind the Urus Performante. It also claims a swift 0-200 kmph time of 11.2 seconds and boasts a top speed of 312 kmph, surpassing both the Urus S and Performante in this aspect.
Adding to its array of new technologies, the Urus SE introduces fresh drive modes: EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance, and Recharge. These join the existing six modes – Strada, Sport, and Corsa for road and track driving, and Neve, Sabbia, and Terra for off-road adventures. The new PHEV drive modes complement the existing six, with Hybrid exclusively available in Strada mode, while Recharge can be selected in Strada, Sport, Corsa, and Neve modes.
