As the name might suggest, this isn’t resistant to water, dust, scratch or drop resistant phone. The Kavach (Armor) moniker instead refers to the secure BHIM UPI transaction app preloaded on the handset. A fingerprint sensor is also present that can be used to securely authenticate UPI payments.
Karbonn K9 Kavach 4G Key Highlights
- The phone has basic entry-grade hardware and Android Nougat software
- Several GOI digital services like BHIM UPI app, Aadhar authentication, etc. are integrated
- The phone also has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor
- And no, it isn’t water, dust or shock resistant
The software used on the phone is based on Android Nougat. Interestingly, apart from BHIM app, the software integrates a host of other government digital payment services. There is e-KYC and Aadhaar authentication, Digilocker and e-Gov service access, person-to-person transactions directly from the phonebook, contextual payments within messenger apps, as well as bill payments and utility services.
And the hardware it’s equipped with is pretty basic.
You get a 5-inch HD display, 1.25GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of native storage, 5MP front and rear cameras, and 2300mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, MicroSD card slot (up to 32GB), Micro-USB, FM radio, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
