Huawei today brought its globally recognized and adored camera-centric smartphone, P9, to India. The Chinese Smartphone major has partnered with Leica to engineer the P9’s camera hardware and software, and based on the rave reviews the handset has received, it seems the partnership has paid off well.
Let’s talk about the camera first.
The dual 12MP sensor has large 1.25-micrometer pixel size, Leica optics, two-tone flash, f2.2 aperture lens, PDAF and Laser AF. As for the front camera, you will find an 8MP sensor with f/2.4 aperture lens. So far, so good.
The implementation and quality are what count. The second 12MP sensor on the rear lacks a Bayer filter and is thus color agnostic. This means:
1) the second sensor can capture more light, thus helping with better details in low light shots
2) You can shoot beautiful black & white shots with great dynamic range.
Huawei also leverages second camera sensor’s ability to act as a depth sensor for bokeh effect in images. In fact, the P9 camera lets you check and adjust the intensity of the background blur in real time on the camera viewfinder.

The software allows you to shoot in 4 different modes (standard, vivid, smooth and monochrome), has a handy pro mode, and even several light painting modes.
Moving on from the camera hardware, the Huawei P9 still has a lot to be excited about. It’s a premium and compact phone with a good quality 5.2-inch 1080p IPS LCD panel, powered by octa-core Kirin 955 processor, 3GB RAM, and 32GB storage.
Other features include 256GB MicroSD card support, Andriod Marshmallow based EMUI software, fingerprint reader, Type C port, dual SIM slot, and a 3000mAh battery with fast charging support.
Huawei P9 will come with 2-year standard warranty, 3 years display replacement warranty. You can also avail pick and drop service incase something goes wrong. It will be available on Flipkart starting today.
Besides P9, Huawei also brought its cold-forged stainless steel Huawei Watch to India. The Huawei watch has a saphhire crystal glass laid on top of it 1.4-inch AMOLED display and is running Android Wear OS. Huawei Watch will be available on Flipkart for 22,999 INR.
