TL; DR
- Honda’s newest and most premium SUV for India, the ZR-V e:HEV, makes its official debut on May 22, 2026.
- Arriving as a fully imported CBU model, it carries a 2.0-litre e:HEV strong-hybrid powertrain producing 184 PS and 315 Nm, routed through an e-CVT.
- The cabin is stacked with features, including a 12-speaker Bose audio setup, panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, and a head-up display.
- Priced from approximately ₹40 lakh, it goes head-to-head with the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, Skoda Kodiaq, and Jeep Meridian.
In an attempt to rekindle buyers’ faith in its Indian lineup and get a piece of the highly competitive yet uncrowded premium SUV market (around ₹50 lakhs), Honda is gearing up to unveil the ZR-V e:HEV hybrid in India. The automaker will take the wraps off the model tomorrow, on May 22, 2026. Ahead of the launch, here’s everything you need to know about the car, including its expected price, exterior design, interiors, features, powertrain, and safety features.
Honda ZR-V e:HEV: Price & Availability
Honda ZR-V is coming to India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) import route. It relies on the government’s provision that allows entry of up to 2,500 vehicles per year without a full homologation required. This particular approach places the ZR-V more as a brand-building model than a volume chaser. This could be an attempt to reclaim the premium ground Honda had in the country in past years.

That said, the ZR-V could be priced between ₹40 lakh and ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom). While bookings of the car should commence tomorrow, deliveries might begin sometime in June or July 2026. It is the first entirely new Honda nameplate to arrive in India in nearly three years, after Elevate.

Honda ZR-V e:HEV: Exterior Design
The ZR-V has a noticeably different silhouette from the Honda Elevate. It has a lower, more crossover-like stance, with a sloping roofline and a sculpted bonnet. All these elements give it a profile that gives the car a more premium European look than a typical Japanese family SUV.

On the front, there’s a hexagonal grille, flanked by slim LED headlamps that feature L-shaped daytime running lights; all those elements sit above a clean lower fascia. The side profile is largely dominated by the 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, gloss black cladding, and body-coloured door handles.
A sharkfin antenna sits atop the roofline toward the rear. When looked at from the rear, it’s the roof spoiler that should draw attention, along with a silver applique on the bumper. The car should also sport dual exhaust tips and LED tail lamps (which might look like the Honda City). That rounds up the car’s exterior.

Honda ZR-V e:HEV: Interiors & Features
Inside, the ZR-V could come with a dashboard that is clean and minimal rather than flashy (and by that, I mean it won’t feature three screens). We could see a free-standing infotainment screen dominating the centre console, with mesh-pattern trim across the AC vent surrounds.

The gear selector is entirely replaced by physical buttons on the centre console, likely to engage driving modes and switch between terrain modes. While the choice might sound weird at first, it frees up physical space and gives the cabin a more uncluttered feel.
Then there’s a three-spoke steering wheel with gloss black inserts, acting as the daily touchpoint between the car and the driver. Finally, a fully digital instrument cluster rounds out the interiors of the car. We should also get soft-touch materials on the door and the center console.

With the Elevate, Honda kept buyers wanting more in terms of features. However, that shouldn’t be the case with the ZR-V. The car is expected to feature a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control for the driver and the co-passenger, and a head-up display for viewing information without taking eyes off the road.
Buyers may also get power-adjustable front seats, a wireless smartphone charger, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. While the global market already has the car available in multiple color options, including grey, brown, and black, we’re not sure about the trims that Honda might release in India (though I’m still expecting classics like white and grey).

Honda ZR-V e:HEV: Powertrain
The car might provide a couple of color options, but it sure won’t do the same with the powertrain. The ZR-V will arrive in India with a single powertrain, consisting of Honda’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine combined with e:HEV strong-hybrid system, which contains a two-motor hybrid setup.

Unlike smart or mild hybrid systems, the combustion engine in a strong-hybrid system primarily functions as a generator, with the electric motor that handles most of the propulsion, especially under lighter loads. In stop-go driving conditions, the ZR-V should operate primarily in EV mode, making it near-silent and highly efficient.
Combined output stands at 184 PS and 315 Nm, delivered through an e-CVT. It’s worth mentioning here that Honda’s e:HEV technology is well-proven globally, especially in models like the Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid.

Honda ZR-V e:HEV: Safety Features
The expected safety suite includes 11 airbags as standard, electronic stability control, hill hold control, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a 360-degree surround camera, and a Level 2 ADAS suite, which provides features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking.

This particular generation of the ZR-V earned a 4-star Euro NCAP rating in 2023.
Honda ZR-V e:HEV: Competition
The ZR-V enters a relatively uncrowded bracket. At the expected price range, it will mainly compete with the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, Skoda Kodiaq, and Jeep Meridian, all of which come with a conventional petrol or diesel powertrain.
