TL; DR
- May 2026 sees eight car launches in India, spanning EVs, hybrids, diesel SUVs, and luxury convertibles.
- Honda confirms two launches on May 22: the City facelift and the new flagship ZR-V hybrid.
- The Tata Sierra EV’s expected third-week debut could be India’s most significant EV launch of 2026.
While May 2026 isn’t one of the most eventful months in the Indian auto market, it definitely isn’t a dry one. While BMW has already kicked off its luxury convertible in the first week, we have confirmed launches lined up from Honda, which, I need not tell you, will be very important for the company’s future in the country.
Along with that, we should also see some leading automakers reveal the prices for their already-announced vehicles, including MG, Tata, and Toyota. So, without any further ado, let’s get started.

Upcoming Car Launches In May 2026
BMW M440i Convertible: ₹1.09 crore (ex-showroom)
- Launched: May 3, 2026

BMW has already kicked off May with a bang, bringing back the glamorous open-top 4 series to the country after a long break. The M440i Convertible features a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo petrol engine that makes 369 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive system.
The car can spring from 0-100 kmph in 4.9 seconds, with a 250 kmph top speed. For those wondering, the fabric soft-top opens or closes in just 18 seconds at speeds up to 50 kmph. Inside, you get a 14.9-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a four-seat cabin. The car goes up against the Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet, which is priced at ₹1.16 crore in India.

Honda City Facelift: Expected Price ₹12.50–19.00 lakh
- Launch Date: May 22, 2026

The Japanese automaker Honda is returning for the second facelift in the City’s fifth-generation cycle. While exterior changes will remain subtle, including revised headlights, taillamps, bumpers, and alloys, the cabin could get a more meaningful upgrade. Expect a larger touchscreen and digital infotainment cluster, a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, and a possible 360-degree camera integration.
The powertrains should be carried over unchanged, so nothing really exciting there. Buyers could get a 121bhp 1.5-litre petrol and a 126bhp strong hybrid, each with its respective gearbox. In a market that’s largely dominated by raised hatchbacks and SUVs, its the City’s combination of elegance, efficiency, and refinement that somehow still keeps it relevant.

Honda ZR-V: Expected Price ₹40–50 lakh
- Launch Date: May 22, 2026
Honda’s second big reveal for the month, breaking cover the same day, is the ZR-V. It will arrive as a full CBU import and marks the brand’s new flagship SUV for the country. It’s a bit weird why the company is pushing into the premium SUV space, especially since its most premium product in the market (right now), Elevate, isn’t doing as many numbers as the competition.
Anyway, the ZR-V could feature an 80bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol hybrid paired with an e-CVT transmission. At around 4,568 mm, the SUV will compete directly with the Volkswagen Tiguan and the Skoda Kodiaq Lounge. Among the key features are dual-zone climate control, a powered driver’s seat, wireless charging, a powered tailgate, and ADAS.

MG Majestor: Expected Price ₹40–45 lakh
- Price Announcement expected: First half of May

Majestor’s unveiling, the big event that the company held to showcase the SUV’s off-roading capabilities, and the subsequent delay in the price announcement have been a saga in their own. The three-row SUV has been announced in Sharp and Savvy trims with six and seven-seat options.
Under the hood is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel, which produces 215bhp and 478Nm, and is paired with an 8-speed torque-converter automatic and a 4WD system (which features triple differential locks and 10 off-road modes).
MG is expected to price the Majestor in the first half of May, likely toward the end of the first week. For now, the expected starting price is around Rs. 41 lakhs (ex-showroom), while the top model with 4WD and seven seats could cost around Rs. 47 lakhs (ex-showroom). If MG gets the price right, it could realistically compete with the Toyota Fortuner.

Tata Sierra EV: Expected Price ₹15–25 lakh
- Launch expected: Second half of May
Tata has had a good start to 2026, delivering the Sierra to buyers who booked the car on the first possible day. Now, the automaker is gearing up to electrify the SUV. The Sierra EV could come with a few design changes, including a blanked-off grille, revised bumpers, and aero-optimised alloys.
It could be available with two battery packs: 55 kWh and 65 kWh, perhaps with both RWD and AWD configurations on offer. This would make it one of the few mass-market EVs to offer all-wheel drive. The SUV will slot below the Harrier EV, and target the Creta EV, Mahinda BE 6, and Maruti’s e-Vitara.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella: Expected Price ₹16–19.50 lakh
- Price announcement expected: May 2026

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, the rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, was unveiled in January 2026. However, since then, buyers have been waiting for the company to put a price tag on the EV. That’s exactly what’s expected in May 2026.
Even though the EV shares its Heartect-e platform with the e-Vitara, it carries its own distinct design elements with triangular LED headlamps and a unique front fascia. The EV offers two battery pack options: 49 kWh (claimed range of 440km) and 61 kWh (claimed range of 543km), across three variants.

BMW X6 M60i: Expected Price ~₹1.40 crore
- Expected: May 2026 (Tentative)
The coupe-style SUV was showcased alongside the M440i on May 3, 2026, a clear sign that the car is coming to India. However, the brand hasn’t confirmed a launch date for the same.
Anyway, we already know that the X6 M60i is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which produces 523bhp and 750Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic. The car can spring from zero to 100 kmph in just 4.3 seconds. Cabin features include the latest BMW curved display setup with a 14.9-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital cluster, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and M Sport hardware.

While this was a breakdown of the already-launched, confirmed, and expected unveils in May 2026, there’s a chance that the Skoda Kodiaq RS could also show up this month. The automaker confirmed India’s first RS badged SUV for a Q2 2026 launch, so June is a more likely launch window. Hence, I’m just mentioning it here, in case the automaker decides to spin the wheels and launch it ahead of the initial timeline.
The Kodiaq RS will arrive as a limited-volume CBU with a retuned 2.0-litre TSI engine making 265bhp and 400Nm, which is 61bhp more than the standard Kodiaq. The engine will be paired with a 7-speed DSG, and buyers will also get AWD control. It does the 0–100kmph run in 6.3 seconds.
