For now, rumors outnumber confirmed car launches in September 2026, but the confirmed ones matter for both brands and prospective buyers. Next month, Kia brings its biggest SUV in the country, while Maruti Suzuki takes the covers off the Baleno facelift. Luxury automaker BMW is also confirmed to launch its flagship sedan duo in the month.

Upcoming Car Launches In India (September 2026): Confirmed Models

Kia Sorento

  • Launch Date: September 4, 2026
Tech Specs (Rumored)
  • Powertrains: 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid with AWD (238hp/380Nm) | 2.2-litre diesel (202hp/441Nm, shared with the Carnival)
  • Seating: 6- and 7-seat configurations
  • Boot space: 179 liters with all rows up, extending to 1,996 liters
  • Features: Dual 12.3-inch displays, ventilated front seats, digital IRVM, powered tailgate, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS
  • New: Kia AI Assistant: a global-first debut for the Sorento nameplate
  • Assembly: Locally produced at Kia’s Anantapur plant
  • Expected price: Dealer sources point to a sub-₹30 lakh starting price, while other reports suggest ₹35–40 lakh

It goes without saying, but this is the company’s most significant Indian launch in years, even more important than the recent Seltos facelift, I’d say. It’s Kia’s first hybrid in the country and the first three-row ICE SUV. What is genuinely unique is the AWD-only pairing with the hybrid powertrain, something that remains unmatched in the segment the SUV is targeting.

As always, the Kia SUV is expected to be loaded with upmarket features such as a large instrument cluster and infotainment screen, ventilated front seats (possibly even rear?), panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS features. Of course, with all the added space and the features, the Sorento will sit above the Seltos in the company’s lineup.

The automaker has played really smart in deciding to manufacture the car locally in India. It goes without saying, but several CBU models remain a fantastic choice for buyers, though import duty pushes prices to an uncomfortable level. Rumors place the car in the ₹30-35 lakh (ex-showroom) ballpark. If that happens, the Sorento will undoubtedly be one of the most value-for-money options in the segment.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift

  • Launch Date: September 5, 2026
Tech Specs (Rumored)
  • Design: Redesigned front grille with a chrome horizontal bar, revised bumper (fog lamps likely dropped), new alloy wheels; boomerang-shaped LED DRLs carried over
  • Cabin: Larger touchscreen (9-inch to 10.1-inch depending on the source), possible sunroof and ambient lighting, revised upholstery
  • Powertrain: Expected to carry over the existing 1.2-liter petrol with 5-speed manual/AMT and CNG option; some reports suggest a switch to the 3-cylinder Z-series unit shared with the Swift
  • Expected price: A modest premium over the current ₹5.99–9.14 lakh range

Maruti’s premium hatchback is due a mid-cycle refresh. This one could lean more toward cabin tech, but it will also be accompanied by a new powertrain (whether optional or not is something we’re yet to figure out). First, Maruti Suzuki could replace the front grille with a chrome horizontal bar (similar to the Dzire already on sale), include a revised bumper design without fog lamps but with new LED DRLs, new alloy wheels on the side, and a simplified rear bumper.

Interiors could also get upgrades in the form of lighter, more premium upholstery and a bigger infotainment screen (with thinner bezels). However, the most important change could take place under the Baleno’s hood. The i20-rival is said to get the same 3-cylinder NA petrol engine that currently powers the new Swift and Dzire. While it improves the fuel economy, the engine lacks the refinement of a 4-cylinder oil burner.

What I’m concerned about is the price hike Maruti has already announced for the Baleno’s existing inventory. For the top-of-the-line Alpha models, the outgoing Baleno now costs buyers up to ₹30,000 more, something that the brand announced a few days ago. Combine that with the facelift premium Maruti will almost certainly ask buyers to pay, and buyers could end up paying as much as ₹40,000-₹50,000 more for the facelifted version.

BMW 7 Series Facelift & BMW i7 Facelift

  • Launch Date: September 11, 2026
Tech Specs (Rumored)
  • 7 Series: Petrol powertrain carried over with revised front fascia, refreshed lighting, and BMW’s latest panoramic digital interior display
  • i7: All-electric variant with a 112.5kWh battery; 50 xDrive and 60 xDrive trims claim 727–728km range; range-topping M70 xDrive produces 671hp with up to 686km claimed range
  • Bookings: Already open since August 1, 2026
  • Expected price: 7 Series north of ₹1.8 crore; i7 likely to push past ₹2 crore (both ex-showroom)

After months of rumors and anticipation, BMW is bringing its flagship sedan pair to India as a mid-life refresh rather than a full generation change. The bigger tech shift is inside the cabin in the form of the new panoramic display setup. The i7’s claimed range figures, if they are true for the India-spec trim, would compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

At this price point, though, the decision usually comes down to badge preference or loyalty.

Upcoming Car Launches In India (September 2026): Expected & Rumored Launches

Hyundai Bayon

  • Expected Launch: September–October 2026, timed to the Diwali festive season (no confirmed date)
Tech Specs (Rumored)
  • Positioning: Slots between the Venue and the next-generation Creta
  • Design: Spotted testing in Europe with a bigger, more SUV-like body
  • Note: Hyundai hasn’t confirmed a fixed date; rumors suggest closer to Diwali itself

A Hyundai Bayon already exists in the global markets. Leveraging Hyundai’s fine quality of materials, excellent finish, upmarket interiors, and a mass-market appeal, the Bayon could do great numbers in India. However, a lot of that will depend on how the automaker prices the car. Depending on the value it offers, it could attract many i20 and Venue buyers or simply push sales of Kia’s Sonet and Seltos.

Hyundai Bayon

The Bayon will almost certainly launch in the Indian festive season, which begins in September and lasts until November this year. Nobody has a hard date yet, but Hyundai could announce the car in the coming weeks to build hype, inform buyers of a new option, and then release it in October 2026.

Other Rumored SUVs: Hybrid Wave Building

Several hybrid SUVs keep coming up in rumors without a specific launch date. These include Renault Duster Hybrid, Kia Seltos Hybrid, and Hyundai Creta Hybrid. Other than that, we also have Renault and Nissan’s own upcoming 7-seater hybrid SUVs.

2026 Kia Seltos: Hybrid Powertrain Expected

A Few Corrections Worth Making

  • The Audi Q3 has been reported for an August 25 unveiling, but the on-sale launch is planned for October 2026, during the festive season.
  • Skoda Superb shows up on several car trackers with a September 18 estimated date, but the diesel Superb’s India launch has been pushed to 2027.
  • Volvo EX90 (and its ES90 sedan sibling) had a public unveiling in India on August 26, but sales could begin from October 12, 2026.

A few other cars that keep appearing on “upcoming” lists have, in fact, already launched before September: the MG Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV (August 26), the Skoda Slavia facelift (August 18), the BMW X1 LWB (August 21), and the Tata Sierra EV (launched earlier this fiscal year).
