Google has announced an Android 12 Go Edition for entry-level based Android smartphones. In a blog post shared by the company, they have highlighted the key features of this new edition OS. It is said to provide a faster, cheaper, and more privacy-friendly experience to the users and will be available for the users next year. It is a lightweight OS which the company planned after its last version was used by over 200 million users to date.
Earlier, Android Go Edition was launched in the year 2017. It seeks to help more people access the best of Android and Google through affordable, entry-level phones.
Android 12 GO Features
Faster App Launches
As per Google, apps running on this new OS will launch up to 30% faster and with smoother animation with no more waiting on the blank screen.
The company has created a splash screen API so all developers can provide a consistently smooth experience when users launch their apps.
Longer Battery Life
The Android 12 Go Edition is expected to automatically save a device’s battery and storage too. It will put apps that haven’t been used for extended periods to hibernate. With the updated Files Go App, users will be able to recover files within 30 days.
Added Intelligent Features
The new OS brings features to recent apps screens too like listening to news and translating any on-screen content into a preferred language. Android 12 Go Edition also makes it easier to share apps directly with nearby devices using Nearby Share and Google Play.
Simpler Device Sharing
Users’ profiles, both personal and guest profiles will be available on the device’s lock screen. They will be allowed to share devices with friends or family without worrying about privacy.
More Privacy Control
A new privacy Dashboard is being introduced too. Here, users will be able to see a snapshot of which apps are accessing particular types of sensitive data, like the microphone, and revoke permissions if needed. It will also add a privacy indicator on the status bar to notify when apps are specifically accessing the microphone or camera.
